This study aims to obtain an appropriate and inexpensive alternative media combination for the growth of Vanda hybrid orchids prior to acclimatization. Experiment using Factorial Randomized Block Design. The first factor is the type of media (Vacin -Went and foliar fertilizer ) and the second factor is the addition of organic matter (coconut water composition, sweet corn composition, tomato composition, BAP, NAA and without organic matter or PGR). The results showed that the interaction of treatment on plant height was only seen at 18 weeks after treatment, while the number of leaves could be seen earlier at 16 weeks after treatment. The independent effect of organic matter and PGR on the number of leaves has been seen since the age of the plant 10 weeks after treatment, while the plant height was only seen 16 weeks after treatment. Independent treatment of growing media had no effect on height and number of leaves up to 18 weeks after planting. The use of foliar fertilizer media with the type of organic material composition being tested can be suggested as an alternative growth medium for plantlet growth, not significantly different from vacin-went with BAP media.
Sweet corn requires large nutrients for growth and production. Legume compost can be used as fertilizer to fulfill nutrients that are beneficial for plant growth. The use of legume compost can substitute NPK elements which function for plant growth. Other efforts that can be made to increase sweet corn production due to the narrowing of agricultural land are to increase the plant population, which is usually 1 plant per planting hole can now be added to 2 to 3 plants per planting hole. The purpose of this study was to determine the best dosage combination of legume compost with the number of plants per planting hole. The research was conducted in an experimental field in Politeknik Negeri Jember. The study was conducted using a factorial randomized block design (RBD) with 2 factors, namely the dose of legume compost and the number of plants per planting hole. From this study there were 9 treatment combinations and 3 replications so that there were 27 experimental units. Anova test results showed that the treatment of legume compost dosage and the number of plants per planting hole had no significant effect on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, corn cob length, corn cob weight, corn cob diameter, and sweetness level, but had significant effect on the parameter of corn cob production per unit observation.
This study aims to identify the diversity of insects in two species of herbal plants, namely Javanese ginseng and citronella in an attempt to initiate herbal plants which function as refugia which will be applied to agricultural plant cultivation. This research was conducted from May to June 2020 in Dusun Curah Wungkal, Pace Village, Silo District, Jember Regency. Sampling was done by purposive sampling, namely by taking insects on herbal plants using a sweep net. Sampling was carried out 4 times with intervals of 2 weeks. Insect diversity was analyzed using the Shannon Weiner diversity index and Dominance index. The differences between the observed parameters were analyzed using non-parametric statistics using SPSS version 15.0 software. The results showed that the number of insect abundance based on the Shannon-Wiener Index (H ’) in Javanese ginseng was higher than that of citronella plants (2.124 ± 0.102> 1.163 ± 0.282). For the species dominance level (C) it is classified as a medium category and the value of Javanese ginseng is higher than that of citronella plants (0.141 ± 0.014> 0.432 ± 0.124). This condition indicates that the ecosystem of Javanese ginseng and lemongrass herbal plants, the diversity of insects, is in a fairly balanced condition.
