Neue cyclische, neutrale Liganden mit unterschiedlicher RinggraOe und Anzahl von Heteroatomen, die in 2,9-Stellung iiberbruckte 1.10-Phenanthrolin-oder 6,6'-uberbriickte 2,2'- tendency to form crystalline alkali-or alkaline-earth metal complexes, the low solubility being an additional handicap. Only Ag+-and HgZ+-complexes have been isolated. Formation of the classical phenanthroline type complexes consisting of two phenanthroline units seems to be sterically hindered by the aliphatic bridge. On the other hand, the crown ether type bridge itself seems incapable of sufficiently stabilizing alkaline metal complexes. In contrast, the newly synthesized acyclic phenanthroline ligands 10, 11 form heavy metal complexes, e. g. Co2+-complexes, whereas compound 12, with a pure hydrocarbon bridge, does not form stable Coz+-complexes. *) Korrespondenz bitte an diesen Autor richten.
Ligand Structure and Complexation, XXX" Lipophilic and Conformationally Hindered CryptandsThe synthesis of the new cryptand systems 1 -17 and 27-32 with lipophilic structural elements (like 0-, m-, p-phenylene, biphenyl, and pyridine nuclei) is reported. The diaza[2.2]crown ether system of the series 15-17 is held apart at a fixed distance by two p-phenylene, 4,4'-biphenyl, and 2-nitro-m-phenylene systems thus providing model compounds for channel building ion transport systems. A few of the neutral ligands displaying varying cavity size and numbers of donor atoms give crystalline alkali metal ion complexes. The alkali and alkaline-earth complex constants of the diazacrown ether systems 27-32 are compared to elucidate the extent of donor participation ofarene rings in the coordination. By means of temperature-dependent I3C NMR spectroscopy, the conformationally hindered rotation of the p-phenylene units is quantitatively studied.
Ligand Structure and Complexation, XXII1). -2,6-Bis(aminomethyl)pyridine as a Complex Ligand and New Building Block for Crown Ether SynthesisThe preparation of the title compound 1 permits the synthesis of new metal salt complexes [with CuCl2, Ni(BF&, Mg(C104)2] and of new cyclic and noocyclic crown ethers, which complex heavy metal salts as &I1 as alkaline earth metal ions. Some open chain crown ethers bear effective end groups; owing to their relevance for biological molecules, carboxamide groups have also been introduced.
Hindered Rotation of the Carbonsmide Bond in Crown Ethers, Cryptands, and Similar Systems - Electronic and Steric Substitoent EffectsThe hindered rotation about the CO -N bond in a few cyclic cryptand systems is compared with that found in non-cyclic model compounds by means of 13C NMR spectroscopy at various temperatures. The AG:-values of the rotational barriers calculated for open-chained benzo-and isophthalomorpholides, piperidides, etc. are hardly different from that of the cyclic cryptand system 2. However, electron-pulling substituents in the para-position to the carboxamide group raise the rotational barrier by approx. 3 kJ/mol (0.7 kcal/mol) on the average, while electron-repelling substituents (even methyl group) lower it by approx. 2 kJ/mole (0.5 kcal/mole). The highest energy barriers are revealed by the 2,6-pyridinedicarboxamidw 1, 8a -1 l a and can be explained by the fact that the pyridino nucleus shows an exceptionally marked resonance with the neighbouring amide groups. Steric effects may be largely excluded; only in the 2-nitro substituted amide 9c a supplementary steric effect can be taken for granted.
