Zur weiteren Aufklärung verschiedener Einzelheiten bei der transkristallinen Spannungsrißkorrosion austenitischer Cr‐Ni‐Stähle wurden Zugversuche mit dem Werkstoff X 5 Cr Ni 189 in heißen, hochkonzentrierten MgCl2‐Lösungen durchgeführt. Außenstromlose Versuche ergaben, daß die Spannungsabhängigkeit der Standzeit je nach den Versuchsbedingungen formal durch eine Potenz‐ oder Expotentialfunktion beschrieben werden kann. Bis zu Spannungen von 2 kp · mm−2 hinab war keine Grenze zu beobachten, unterhalb derer Spannungsrißkorrosion überhaupt nicht auftritt.
Durch potentiostatische Halteversuche bei verschiedenen Spannungen konnte ein Potential‐Zugspannungs‐Standzeit‐Diagramm aufgestellt werden. Das Auftreten der Spannungsrißkorrosion ist zu positiven Potentialen hin immer stärker von Lochfraß begleitet wird.
Dehnungsmessungen während der Versuche lieferten auf zerstörungsfreiem Wege ein hinreichend exaktes Kriterium für die Aufteilung der Gesamtversuchszeit in Inkubations‐ und Reißperiode. Die Länge der Inkubationsperiode hängt sowohl von der Höhe der Zugspannung als auch vom Probenpotential ab.
Für die Reißperiode ergab sich daß die Wachstumsgeschwindigkeit der Risse formal der jeweils am Rißgrund herrschenden Spannung proportional ist Die Proportionalitätskonstante ist wiederum eine lineare Funktion des Probenpotentials. Durch Extrapolation läßt sich das Grenzpotential ermitteln, unterhalb dessen Spannungsrißkorrosion nicht auftreten kann.
Elektrochemische Messungen ergaben, daß in den geprüften Lösungen die Wasserstoffionenreduktion der maßgebliche kathodische Teilvorgang ist. Der untersuchte Werkstoff ist stabil passiv; sein Ruhepotential im gesammten Zustand liegt an der unteren Grenze des Lochfraßbereiches. Zugspannungen bzw. die durch sie bedingten Verformungen verschieben das Grenzpotential für die heterogene Korrosion zu negativen Werten.
An chemisch beständigen austenitischen Stählen mit rd. 18% Cr, 10 bis 12% Ni ohne und mit Molybdän, teilweise titan‐ oder niobstabilisiert, Untersuchungen über den Angriffsort, die Ausbildung und die Geschwindigkeit der Lochfraßkorrosion mit Hilfe verschiedener Untersuchungsverfahren. Die durch Chlorionen verursachte Lochfraßkorrosion wurde an sechs verschiedenen Cr‐Ni‐Stählen in einem Fe(II)‐FE (III)‐Redoxpuffer untersucht. Durch Messen des Elektrodenpotentials und der Elektrodenimpedanz wurden Vorstellungen über die Kinetik der Lochfraßkorrosion entwickelt. Potentionstatische Messungen in redoxsystemfreien Elektrolyten zeigten, daß die Lochfraßkorrosion nur in einem bestimmten Potentialbereich auftritt. Anders als in nitratfreien Elektrolyten ist dieser Potentialbereich in Gegenwart von Nitrationen zu positiven Potentialen hin begrenzt. Die zeitlich konstante Lochzahldichte, eine Induktionszeit und ein quasistationäre Korrosionsstromdichte sind potentialabhängige Funktionen, die in nitratfreien Elektrolyten symmetrisch zu den Grenzpotentialen unter Ausbildung eines Extremwertes verlaufen. Und zwar nimmt beim Überschreiten der Grenzpotentiale die Lochzahl und der Korrosionsstrom zu und die Induktionszeit ab. Abgesehen von einigen Übergangserscheinungen in der Näher der Grenzpotentiale steigt der Korrosionsstrom mit dem Quadrat der Zeit an. Die Potentialabhängigkeit des Faktors dieser Zeitfunktion führt zu einer anodischen Tafelneigung, die mit den Messungen im Redoxpuffer übereinstimmt. Die experimentellen Ergebnisse lassen sich durch Annahme einer Chemisorption als Startreaktion deuten. Zur Frage der stabilen Koexistenz aktiver und passiver Bereiche im Zusammenhang mit dem „Alles‐oder‐Nichts”︁ ‐Gesetz der Passivität wird sowohl eine Widerstandspolarisation als auch eine Salzsäureanreicherung in den Löchern angenommen.

Es werden Versuche beschrieben, durch Einbau von Fremdionen mit abweichender Wertigkeit die Konzentration der Gitterfehlstellen des FeO zu verringern und dadurch die Oxydationsgeschwindigkeit des Eisens bei höheren Temperaturen herabzusetzen. Hierzu wird im Hochvakuum auf kleine Eisenblechproben Li2O aufgedampft. Die Proben werden an‐schließend in Luft von 1 at oxydiert.
Unter geeigneten Versuchsbedingungen läßt sich bei bestimmter Li2O‐Konzentration und 850°C eine zeitweise Erniedrigung der Oxydationsgeschwindigkeit erreichen. Die Wirkung geht jedoch nach wenigen Stunden verloren, da durch das Wachsen der Oxydschicht eine „Verdünnung”︁ des Li2O eintritt. Die „wirksame”︁ Li2O‐Konzentration wird zu 1,5 bis 2,5 Gew‐% abgeschätzt. Größere Li2O‐Konzentrationen erhöhen die Oxydationsgeschwindigkeit, geringere sind wirkungslos. Weiterhin muß durch geeignete, „Vorbehandlung”︁ erreicht werden, daß das Li2O überwiegend in die FeO‐Phase des aus drei Oxydphasen (FeO, Fe3O4, Fe2O3) bestehenden Zunders gelangt.
Bei Temperaturen um 600°C konnte kein Einfluß der Li2O ‐Bedampfung auf die Oxydationsgeschwindigkeit beobachtet werden.
