For example, it has been possible to prove by NMR soectroscqy that the expected addition of protons into 9,lO-dimethyl-[albenzanthrucene actually does take place. Two isomeric proton adducts of toluene have been found by means of infrared spectra. On addition of protons, the ultraviolet spectra of aromatics change considerably; excellent agreement is sometimes observed between the band niaxinia calculated by quantum mechanics and those found by experiment.

Mit UV-, IR-und NMR-spektroskopischen Methoden kann man die Struktur der bisher nur ihrer stochiometrischen Zusammensetzung nach bekannten Proton-Additionskomplexe von Aromaten klaren. NMR-spektroskopisch konnte beispielsweise die erwartete ProtonenAnlagerung an 9.10-Dimethyl-1.2-benzanthracen bewiesen werden. Mit Hive der IRSpektren wurden am Toluol zwei isomere Proton -Addukte gejiunden. Die UV-Spektren der Aromaten andern sich bei Protonen-Anlagerung erheblich ; die quantenmechanisch berechneten und die experimentellen Bandenmaxima stimmen teilweise ausgezeichnet iiberein.
