This paper presents the development of a novel TIR-based biochip which generates evanescent wave illumination for highly-sensitive fluorescent sensing. In this work, we will rely on a monolithic method to fabricate the biochip in PDMS which couples light from a laser diode through a single mode optical fiber to conduct TIR for evanescent wave generation. Optical simulation result has confirmed the occurrence of TIR at glass/water interface. Preliminary fabrication results using conventional bulk micromachining and polymer casting with PDMS will also be presented.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
