Backwardness in economic development in comparison with EU and countries from region, expressed especially after big crisis from 2008, demands a change of country's economic policy in order to create assumptions for a long-term sustainable development and competitiveness' increase in regional and world contexts. Having in mind results realized so far, there is a real danger that current economic policy will stabilize country on a low level of GDP, high unemployment rate, with low wages and bad working conditions in a large number of enterprises, in domestic or foreign ownership. Such situation is a result of non-existence of adequate strategy of economic development in transitional period. The goal of paper is to point that new economic policy should be based on support to sectors which most of its added value create through internationalization of business and which have faster growth of revenues on foreign than on domestic markets, such as IT sector, agro-business, medium-tech developed industries.
There is a tendency of increase and change in the structure of demand for the products from agricultural sector in the modern global environment. Such situation demands market orientation of agricultural producers, from business entities to individual agricultural holdings, in order to offer the appropriate response to the changes in the environment conditions and new market demands. The entrance and survival in the developed world market demand raising the competitiveness of agricultural sector which cannot be based on the low input prices alone (land, workforce), but the application of modern knowledge and innovation, that is, the synergistic effect of all the competition factors. For their part, the state and local governments should create an encouraging social and economic environment for agriculture and rural development, especially in undeveloped regions and areas of the Republic of Serbia. The undeniable agricultural potentials can significantly contribute to foreign trade balance improvement, public debt reduction, unemployment decrease and increase of the living standard of the population.
The organizations which accepted project management concept among the first, gained a lot of advantages compared to others, such as: faster and easier adjustment to the environment, shorter accomplishment time, structured decisionmaking, responsibility specification, customer needs focus, etc. One of the basic factors of project management is costs because they demand fund allocation for its realization. Project management is a complex process, with business environment complexity in mind. Therefore, the issues of selection, realization and evaluation of the project deserve significant attention. The aim of this paper is to indicate project management concept advantages, the importance of project cost estimate and control, as well as evaluation method and project selection with the aim of efficiency increase for the entire process.
Increased complexity of business operations, fast market and technological changes and global competition demand a quick and adequate answer from enterprises' management structures. Reliable and efficient cost accounting system provides a secure basis for making not only short-term, but strategic managements' decisions, as well. Assumptions for an increase of cost management efficiency are better interconnection between financial and management accounting, better control of cost types and cost centers, more reliable information for an alternative business decision making, support to investments control and strategic planning, impact on the motivation of employees and other. Seizing and keeping of enterprise's competitive position is no longer possible without active cost management policy. Research in this paper has shown that enterprises from Serbia's economic sector can significantly improve its business performance and competitiveness through advancement of cost accounting system.
