According to the presented data, it could be reasonable to use lithium as a single evening dose in patients who can tolerate this schedule because no studies have suggested any benefit from administration of multiple daily doses. Possible advantages of single daily dosing, especially in improved compliance, could not be veiled by disadvantages of transient and mild postabsorptive side effects.
Instincts have a strong impact on the human psyche and their fulfillment results in relief of internal tension. They belong to our inner, unconscious (Id) world and there is no "escape" from them. The source of our instincts is unclear and their goal is always the same-fulfillment or elimination of the stimuli. Since impulses do not belong to the realm of reality, they do not obey the laws of time, logic and causality. Their destiny is to be fulfilled, kept in the unconscious, or turned into their opposite. Personality traits are an important factor in one's life satisfaction and can therefore influence sexual self-perception and sexual life. Our aim was to determine effects of personality traits on sexual self-perception and sexual dysfunctions in schizophrenic patients.Research was conducted on 100 schizophrenic patients and 100 healthy individuals. Instruments used: NEO-PI personality questionnaire, Bezinović's questionnaire for sexual self-perception and Arizona sexual experience scale.Sexual drive and excitement are linked with all personality traits in schizophrenic patients. That means that stronger sexual drive and easier sexual arousal are connected with higher extraversion, pleasantness, consciousness and openness, as well as with lower neuroticism. Among healthy individuals, personality traits don't predict sexual dysfunctions. In schizophrenic patients, personality traits significantly influence all aspects of sexual self-perception except sexual adventurism. However, higher openness is the basis upon which sexual adventurism can be predicted. Pronounced sexual self-scheme is predicted by higher openness and consciousness. Higher openness also predicts higher consciousness of own sexuality. Higher neuroticism is a predictor of negative emotionality and sexual incompetence, and higher extraversion is a predictor of negative emotionality. In healthy individuals, personality traits are predictors of aspects of sexual self-perception. Higher openness and lower consciousness are predictors of more pronounced sexual self-scheme, higher perception of own sexuality and sexual adventurism. Higher openness and lower neuroticism are predictors of higher negative emotionality and sexual incompetence. We can conclude that personality traits affect aspects of sexual self-perception and sexual dysfunctions in schizophrenic patients and healthy individuals, but their influence differs in certain dimensions.
Background:Although there is no consensus regarding the definition of personality, personality psychology is getting near to understanding that personality traits can be summed up into five basic dimensions. Five factor personality model consists of these five basic dimensions: neuroticism, extraversion/introversion, openness to experience, agreeableness and conscientiousness.Aim:Of this research was to establish in what manner certain personality traits of patients suffering from schizophrenia and depression and healthy individuals, influence their sexual satisfaction.Participants and methods:This research was conducted on 100 patients suffering from schizophrenia, 100 patients suffering from depression and 100 healthy individuals. Instruments used in this research were: five factor personality questionnaire and sexual experience scale (Arizona). Results:Among patients suffering from schizophrenia, sexual drive and easier sexual arousal were linked to higher extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness and conscientiousness and to lower neuroticism. among patients suffering from depression, smaller number and less pronounced sexual dysfunctions were linked to higher extraversion, openness to experience and conscientiousness, and also to lower neuroticism. among healthy individuals, higher extraversion is linked to easier sexual arousal and higher neuroticism to lower orgasm satisfaction. Conclusion:Personality traits have a significant influence on sexual satisfaction of patients suffering from depression and patients suffering from schizophrenia, but also of healthy individuals.
