The insecticidal activity and chemical constituents of the essential oil from Ajania fruticulosa were investigated. Twelve constituents representing 91.0% of the essential oil were identified, and the main constituents were 1,8-cineole (41.40%), (+)-camphor (32.10%), and myrtenol (8.15%). The essential oil exhibited contact toxicity against Tribolium castaneum and Liposcelis bostrychophila adults with LD50 values of 105.67 μg/adult and 89.85 μg/cm(2) , respectively. The essential oil also showed fumigant toxicity against two species of insect with LC50 values of 11.52 and 0.65 mg/l, respectively. 1,8-Cineole exhibited excellent fumigant toxicity (LC50 = 5.47 mg/l) against T. castaneum. (+)-Camphor showed obvious fumigant toxicity (LC50 = 0.43 mg/l) against L. bostrychophila. Myrtenol showed contact toxicity (LD50 = 29.40 μg/cm(2) ) and fumigant toxicity (LC50 = 0.50 mg/l) against L. bostrychophila. 1,8-Cineole and (+)-camphor showed strong insecticidal activity to some important insects, and they are main constituents of A. fruticulosa essential oil. The two compounds may be related to insecticidal activity of A. fruticulosa essential oil against T. castaneum and L. bostrychophila.
The spectrum of Mg-like Br, Br XXIV, was investigated by means of the beam-foil technique. Bromine ions of 90 and 130 MeV energy from the HI-13 tandem accelerator at the China Institute of Atomic Energy were used, and the wavelength region 130–290 Å was investigated. The spectra showed 24 Br XXIV transitions within the n = 3 complex, i.e. between the 3s2, 3s3p, 3p2, 3s3d and 3p3d configurations. Of these 5 have been reported earlier. In this spectrum 19 energy levels have now been experimentally determined, 14 of which have not been reported earlier. The observed energy level values have been theoretically interpreted by means of relativistic Hartree-Fock (HFR) calculations.
Soft corals are common marine organisms that inhabit tropical and subtropical oceans. They are shown to be rich source of secondary metabolites with biological activities. In this work, soft corals from two geographical locations were investigated using 1H-NMR spectroscopy coupled with multivariate statistical analysis at the metabolic level. A partial least-squares discriminant analysis showed clear separation among extracts of soft corals grown in Sanya Bay and Weizhou Island. The specific markers that contributed to discrimination between soft corals in two origins belonged to terpenes, sterols and N-containing compounds. The satisfied precision of classification obtained indicates this approach using combined 1H-NMR and chemometrics is effective to discriminate soft corals collected in different geographical locations. The results revealed that metabolites of soft corals evidently depended on living environmental condition, which would provide valuable information for further relevant coastal marine environment evaluation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
