L'épinard est une plante potagère de forte consommation au Gabon, en raison de sa grande richesse nutritionnelle, et de ses nombreuses vertus médicinales. La présente étude a été proposée pour améliorer la production de ce légume afin de la rendre permanemment disponible sur le marché local. Les graines de l'épinard ont pour cela été prétraitées par immersion pendant 24 h dans 3 solutions de piment de concentrations respectives 5% (T5%), 25% (T25%) et 50% (T50%), puis mises en culture sous serre. Les paramètres de croissance mesurés étaient la germination des graines, les croissances longitudinale et diamétrale des tiges, les surfaces foliaires et le pouvoir phylotaxique des plantes. Les résultats obtenus ont révélé que seul le traitement T5% induisait l'augmentation des 5 paramètres morphométriques évalués. Les deux autres traitements ont plutôt baissé ces valeurs, proportionnellement à leurs concentrations en piment. L'usage des solutions de piment peut donc être envisagé dans l'amélioration des productions de l'épinard au Gabon.
