L. P. Queiroz, Cassia grandis L. f., Cecropia pachystachya Trec., Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong e Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. Establishment of Native Species Through Direct Seeding inPiauitinga River -Sergipe ABSTRACTThe direct seeding technique stands out for forest restoration projects due to savings in deployment costs and has been increasingly used. This work was carried out with the objective of assessing emergence, survival and establishment of native forest species, by means of seeds, in riparian areas of Piauitinga River, in the municipality of Lagarto-SE. The species used were Libidibia ferrea var. leiostachya (Benth.) L.P.Queiroz., Cassia grandis L.F., Cecropia pachystachya Trec., Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong and Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. The field work was performed in a randomized block design (RBD) with four replications in factorial scheme, testing five species with and without treatment for overcoming of dormancy. It was observed that direct sowing is a viable technique for the area of study only for the species L. ferrea var. leiostachya, E. contortisiliquum and Cassia grandis, using seeds with and without dormancy.
The semi-arid is a region of high temperatures and low rainfall conditions, and can be the gateway to the establishment of climatic processes that aggravate this aridity condition. The objective of the present study was to identify the areas most susceptible to desertification in the semi-arid state of Sergipe, through the application of the aridity index. The aridity index was generated from the input monthly data of precipitation and temperature, and the classification of the index was performed in: hyperarid, arid, semi-arid, sub-humid dry and sub-humid and humid, with a subsequent classification of the risk level as being very high, high and moderate. The semi-arid region of the state of Sergipe has all the superior extension in prominence, since it shows the highest aridity index (reaching 0.09 in Canindé de São Francisco and Poço Redondo) and, consequently, higher risk to desertification, especially the northwest with a classification of semiarid. Monthly, there is a condition of aridity in some regions, which magnifies the susceptibility to the processes of desertification.
Understanding the behavior of the emergence of native forest seeds is essential to achieve greater successes in forest recovery. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the emergence of native forest species (Cassia grandis L.F., Cecropia pachystachya Trec., Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong, Guazuma ulmifolia Lam., and Libidibia ferrea var. leiostachya (Benth.) L.P.Queiroz.) in riparian areas of the Piauitinga River, in the municipality of Lagarto (state of Sergipe, Brazil). The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design (DBC) with four blocks in triple scheme (4 x 2 x 6): four forest species emerged (Cassia grandis, Enterolobium contortisiliquum, Guazuma ulmifolia, Libidibia ferrea var. leiostachya), with and without treatment to overcome dormancy, evaluated every fortnight for 90 days (6 periods). It was verified by the statistical analysis that the four species that had emergencies interacted in the two treatments used throughout the six evaluation periods. The species, in both treatments, presented a large number of seeds emerged in the first weeks after sowing, reducing over time. The species studied have a characteristic pattern of emergence over time, considering both seeds with and without treatment to overcome dormancy.
The riparian forests of the Piauitinga river Basin, Sergipe state, Brazil, are severely degraded, requiring urgent actions aimed their recovery. In this way, the present work was carried out with the objective of analyzing the establishment of native forest species, implanted in a degraded section of riparian forest of the Piauitinga river, in the municipality of Lagarto state of Sergipe, aiming the forest recovery of this area. It was performed the planting of five native forest species, including pioneers and non-pioneers specie, arranged in a randomized block design, in a total of 200 individuals, distributed in 10 individuals with spacing of 1,5m x 1,5m. The Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. species obtained the best results regarding survival, height (111.94 cm) and diameter at soil height (22.89 mm). Guazuma ulmifolia Lam., Tapirira guianensis Aubl. and Sapindus saponaria L. showed to be able to withstand the adversities of the studied environment, and can be recommended in future projects of recovery of the ciliary forests of that planning unit.
AbstractFloristic composition and characterization of the conservation state of springs from the central east portion of the Itapicuru river watershed in the Bahia semiarid. Springs are fundamental for the hydrology of watersheds. Their monitoring and conservation are important, mainly in the semiarid, where the water supply is scarce. The objective of this study was to map springs from the semiarid region of Bahia, central east portion of the Itapicuru river watershed, and characterize their conservation state and occurrence species in the permanent preservation area. The study was carried out through field visits in the municipalities of Cipó, Nova Soure, and Tucano. All springs located in the Itapicuru river watershed were georeferenced, and all the existing individuals and species were identified and counted in the radius of 50 m. Also, the forms of using the soil were recorded and their degradation status was assessed as preserved, disturbed or degraded. All 14 springs located were punctual, and pasture was the main form of using. there are no preserved springs. The most observed species was Poincianella pyramidalis (catingueira/native), followed by Mangifera indica (mangueira/exotic). The study identified high degree of springs degradation, attesting to the lack or inadequate springs management and alerting to the need of intervention of river basin management practices.
