This study presents a method and research reusults of material selection for sabot of saboted armor-piercing bullets fired on pistols with caliber of 7.62 mm. The considered materials were aluminum A6061, special composites PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) and ULTEM1000 (Polyetherimide). These materials are lightweight and have excellent chemical-physical-mechanical properties, which meet harsh requirements about thermal resistance and impact resistance for sabot. A numerical method on Explicit Dynamics of ANSYS software was employed in the present work. The simulation result was validated by experiments. The comparision indicated that the obtained results in the study were accurate and can be used in material selection for sabot of saboted armor-piercing bullets fired on pistols with caliber of 7.62 mm and the proposed investigation method was reliable and can be applied in material selection for sabot of saboted armor-piercing bullet’s of different calibers.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
