An investigation into material selection for sabot of saboted armor-piercing bullets fired on pistols using numerical simulation method

Abstract: This study presents a method and research reusults of material selection for sabot of saboted armor-piercing bullets fired on pistols with caliber of 7.62 mm. The considered materials were aluminum A6061, special composites PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) and ULTEM1000 (Polyetherimide). These materials are lightweight and have excellent chemical-physical-mechanical properties, which meet harsh requirements about thermal resistance and impact resistance for sabot.
