O artigo resulta de uma pesquisa qualitativa que enfocou as reflexões de jovens residentes na Baixada Fluminense (RJ) sobre a construção ficcional daquele território feita pela novela “Malhação – Toda forma de amar”. A trama é perpassada por situações de violência, reveladoras de grandes desigualdades sociais nas metrópoles. Interessou ao estudo, sobretudo, investigar os modos de ver a abordagem ficcional sobre uma periferia em suas interconexões com a saúde e as formas como as vivências dos jovens são refletidas nesse processo. A análise referenciou-se em estudos sobre comunicação e narrativas ficcionais; juventudes; e violência e saúde.
Por meio da comparação de aspectos do enredo de duas séries de ficção, Boca a Boca (Netflix, 2020) e As five (Globoplay, 2020), este texto explora como as possíveis semelhanças ou diferenças em tal estrutura permitem reflexões sobre a atuação de serviços de vídeo sob demanda que operam no Brasil. Para tanto, empreendemos uma análise do sistema de narração para explorar os modos de apresentação dos eventos na trama, ou seja, o modo pelo qual as informações narrativas são distribuídas; o gênero pregnante das séries, sua principal linha de ação e o modo como os temas se articulam ao enredo e aos personagens na progressão da história.
