We have developed an efficient and highly stereocontrolled synthesis of bistramide A, a selective activator of protein kinase C isotype delta. Our synthetic strategy featured a novel bidirectional approach for spiroketal construction based on the ring-opening/cross-metathesis sequence employing a highly strained cyclopropenone acetal. The synthesis afforded the final target with the longest linear sequence of 15 steps and provided unambiguous structural determination of bistramide A, including assignment of the previously unknown C(37) stereochemistry.
An electrooxidative direct arylsulfonlylation of ynones with sulfinic acids via a radical tandem cyclization strategy has been developed for the construction of sulfonated indenones under oxidant-free conditions. This method provides a simple and efficient approach to prepare various sulfonylindenones in good to excellent yields, demonstrating the tremendous prospect of utilizing electrocatalysis in oxidative coupling. Notably, this reaction could be easily scaled up with good efficiency.
Since the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) was put into operation in June 2003, the effects of the TGR on downstream hydrology and water resources have become the focus of public attention. This article examines the effects of the TGR on the hydrological droughts at the downstream Yichang hydrological station during 2003–2011. The two‐parameter monthly water balance model was used to generate the monthly discharges at the Yichang station for the period of 2003–2011 to represent the unregulated flow regime and thus to provide a comparison benchmark for the observed flow series at the Yichang station after the operation of the TGR. To provide a reference series for the observed monthly discharge series of the entire study period of 1951–2011, we constructed the naturalized monthly discharge series at the Yichang station by joining the observed monthly discharge at the Yichang station for the period of 1951–2002 and the two‐parameter monthly water balance simulated monthly runoff at the Yichang station for the period of 2003–2011. For both the observed and naturalized monthly discharge series of 1951–2011, the hydrological drought index series were calculated using the standardized streamflow index method. By comparing the drought indices of these two monthly discharge series, we investigated the effects of the TGR on the hydrological droughts at the downstream Yichang station during 2003–2011. The results show that the hydrological droughts at the downstream Yichang station are slightly aggravated by the TGR's initial operation from 2003 to 2011. The river flow reduction at the Yichang station after impoundment of the TGR might account for the downstream drought aggravation. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
Lung transplantation in China has been developing for almost 40 years . The pioneers of this procedure experienced struggles and obstacles upon accomplishment of the initial 20 cases of lung transplantation. Like the expanding process of transplant programs elsewhere in western countries and other regions in Asia, transplant teams in China have found their own way to step forward, with the establishment of the two largest centers in Beijing and Wuxi. Since 2015, which was a novel start and milestone for transplant affairs in China, the pace of transplant volume and comparable quality of care for lung transplant recipients have increased noticeably. We reviewed the advancement of lung transplantation programs and registry setup in China and indicated that more socioeconomic factors and human care aspects needed to be considered to benefit Chinese recipients, which may further inspire the modification of criteria of listing and organ utilization based on East Asian cultural and traditional origins.
Background Lung transplantation, either single or bilateral, serves as the only effective treatment for end‐stage idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), but their superiority is still being debated, and its application in Chinese patients has not been data analysed. Methods We reviewed 109 IPF patients who received lung transplantation at our centre between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2017. The patients were divided into single lung transplantation (SLT) group and bilateral lung transplantation (BLT) group. We compared the two groups’ demographic characteristics and clinical indexes (intraoperative conditions, postoperative complications, follow‐ups and life qualities). Results Patients in BLT group were significantly younger than those in SLT group (P < 0.001), and had more pretransplant infections (P = 0.007). The total ischemic time (P < 0.001) was shorter and intraoperative blood loss was less (P = 0.001) in SLT group. No significant difference was found in the proportion of patients in using anti‐fibrosis drugs, pulmonary artery pressure, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation during the surgery; the length of intensive care unit stay; the incidence of complication; and the overall survival rate between two groups. However, the hierarchical analysis found that patients aged > 60 years showed a better survival in SLT group (P = 0.008). Both groups got normal MOS 36‐item Short Form (SF‐36) scores, and the scores of BLT were higher than those of SLT. The BLT group had better lung function than SLT group 1 year post‐lung transplantation. Conclusions Both SLT and BLT are effective and SLT is more favourable for the patients of > 60 years.
