Résumé Objectifs : évaluer le retentissement sur les sages-femmes de la prise en charge du deuil périnatal. Méthodologie : étude qualitative menée auprès de sages-femmes des trois niveaux de maternités. Entretiens individuels et focus group. Résultats : la souffrance des sages-femmes augmente avec le manque d’anticipation ou l’accumulation des situations de mort en salle de naissance. Certaines pratiques transgressives feront courir le risque d’une effraction traumatique si l’institution n’assure pas sa fonction contenante. Des mécanismes de défense, individuels et collectifs, leur permettront d’assurer un accompagnement empathique des parents endeuillés. Conclusion : une élaboration des pratiques, associée à une anticipation institutionnelle seront nécessaires, au bénéfice de la prise en charge des patientes.
La chronique judiciaire peut fournir un poste d’observation de la réalité du fonctionnement des tribunaux si l’on en saisit bien les contraintes tant journalistiques qu’économiques. Plusieurs biais caractérisent le travail du chroniqueur, ici en cour d’assises : les critères présidant au choix des procès sont extrêmement variables dans le temps, sujets à des modes ou à la pression de l’actualité ; la distance critique nécessaire à un minimum d’objectivation de son observation est difficile à tenir ; et sa présence produit dans le prétoire des effets qu’il est quasiment impossible de neutraliser. Enfin, son compte rendu d’audience comporte lui-même un enjeu : chaque partie au procès peut vouloir s’en faire un allié et il peut se révéler vulnérable aux manipulations.
