Providing an inclusive education to students with intellectual disability in higher education is an emerging challenge. This paper presents the results of a research study that analyses the perceptions of graduates from the Promentor Programme (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain). The study follows a phenomenological design and employs qualitative research methodology. Two focus groups are conducted, with 14 participants in total. The participants' perspective is structured around the following categories: (a) Quality of life and training received; (b) barriers encountered; (c) supports received; and (b) lecturers' competences. In general, participants give their experience a positive assessment in relation to aspects such as social inclusion, professional and personal development or self-esteem. The study's conclusions highlight the convenience of an inclusive and qualitative research design that will serve to hear the voices of persons with intellectual disability, as well as their perception of the positive impact of university education on their lives.

This demands that society must address the question of whether every person, regardless of their personal characteristics, disability, origin, culture, beliefs, etc., shall have equal opportunities to access the various social environments. Therefore, the concept of inclusion is inherent to democratic society. In the educational environment, the right to be included and to participate in building a better society translates into developing institutions that are open to students in all their diversity, and into understanding this diversity as an opportunity for social enrichment. We agree with M. A. Casanova (2009), in that the consolidation of a democratic and plural society will only be possible through the impulse of educational inclusion.Aware that inclusion is no longer a guiding principle but has become a fundamental right (Echeita and Ainscow, 2010), in recent years university institutions have developed inclusion policies and practices for people with intellectual disabilities (onwards PWID). The European Higher Education Area (EHEA) defines the context in which students with disabilities access to university should be promoted. As an example, the Agencia Nacional de Evaluación de la Calidad y Acreditación [National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation], in ...
Despite being an essential human condition, death is an under-researched area in the effort to improve people with intellectual disabilities' life quality. In this article we describe the concept of death among young people with intellectual disabilities. A mixed research methodology that includes quantitative and qualitative approaches was employed, including both a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. Results indicate that participants have difficulty understanding of biological dimensions of death. Moreover, it has been found that participants present a wide range of opinions, attitudes and beliefs about death. Conclusions reflect on implications of these results
