LapolimixinaBdisminuyelapoblación de pmmastigotes por lo cual es preferible no usarse en cultivos de Leishmania. El ácido nalidíxico y kanamicina pueden ser utilizados in vitro pero teniéndose en cuenta laespecie de Leishmania y la concentración de anfimicrobiano recomendado para la misma. INTRODUCCIONEs importante el aislamiento y mantenimiento de cepas de Leishmania en cultivo porque ellas son el antígeno que se emplea tanto paralas pruebas inmunodiagnósticas como para estudios bioquímicos e inmunológicos.Los promastigotes que se mantienen en cultivo provienen de los amastigotes que han sido obtenidos a partir de biopsias ya sea de humanos o animales vertebrados. La fuente de origen de los parásitos puede contener microorganismos los cuales contaminan los cultivos impidiendo el mantenimiento de los promastigotes in vitro. La prioridad de conservar una cepa de Leishmania axénica ha llevado a los investigadores a buscar soluciones para eliminar losmicroorganismos. Unprocedimiento para tal fin es utilizar antibióticos que inhiban y eliminen los agentes contaminantes.La adición de antibióticos en medios de cultivo ha sido discutida durante años (1,2). Se pensaba que la adición de éstos sólo debería hacerse mando se aislaran cepas de Leishmania. Sin embargo, con el tiempo se comprobó que una contaminación con hongos o bacterias era difí-cil de manejar in vitro y que aquellas se podían controlar y hasta eventualmente eliminar con antibióticos como gentamicina, penicilina y estreptomicina individualmente o en combinaciones.Desde hace varios años se conoce que anfotericinaB ypentamidina son activos contra la forma promastigote de Leishmania (3, 4) y que ciertos bactericidas como sulfadiazina,
Se describe una metodología para el aislamiento de Trypanosoma sp. a partir de deyecciones de Rhodnius prolixus infectados con Trypanosomas. Básicamente se emplea antibióticos y antimicóticos que inhiben el crecimiento de bacterias y hongos permitiendo así el crecimiento de los Trypanosomas. Se demuestra la importancia de ésta metodología en las encuestas de vectores. INTRODUCCIONLa recuperación de cepas de Trypanosoma cmzi a partir de las deyecciones de los triatomíneos vectores, comentemente se hace por inoculación de éstas a los ratones en los cuales no siempre se logra, ya que muchas veces sólo se encuentran flagelados de la forma epimastigota sin metacíclicos, que son las formas infectantes. En los triatomíneos infectados con Trypanosoma rangeli las formas infectantes las encontramos en las glándulas salivares del Rhodniusprolixus y formas epimastigotas en las heces. En muchas regiones se encuentran infecciones mixtas por T. cruzi y T. rangeli que dificultan la identificación del primero. El aumento inusitado de consultas a las tres principales instituciones prestadoras de servicios de salud del municipio de Ipiales desde el 14 de julio de 2017, por un cuadro clínico consistente en diarrea, nauseas, vómito y dolor abdominal, generó una respuesta de investigación y control del evento, coordinada entre la Dirección Local de Salud y el Instituto Departamental de Salud de Nariño con el apoyo del Instituto Nacional de Salud. Se configuró un brote de enfermedad diarreica aguda de etiología viral que afectó alrededor del 85% de los barrios de la cabecera municipal. Los hallazgos de la curva epidémica indicaron al inicio una fuente común siendo el agua suministrada a la población el vehículo y una segunda fase de transmisión mediante fuente propagada (persona a persona). La mayor proporción de casos se concentró en la población menor de cinco años. La proporción de casos con hospitalización mayor a 24 horas fue del 9,9 % del total de casos. No se presentaron casos graves ni mortalidad asociada. No se sobrepasó la capacidad de respuesta de la entidad territorial ni de la red de prestación de servicios de salud. La principal condición de riesgo identificada fue el sistema de abastecimiento de agua y aunque no se logró identificar de manera específica una situación o evento desencadenante del brote, los hallazgos en las muestras biológicas y de agua, el comportamiento de la curva epidémica, así como los hallazgos sanitarios y ambientales permiten identificar qué múltiples factores relacionados con la fuente, la captación, tratamiento y distribución del sistema de acueducto principal del municipio, estuvieron implicados tanto en el origen como en la propagación del brote.
