RESUMOAs pastagens abrangem cerca de 50 milhões de hectares na região do Cerrado. Os Latossolos, ocupando aproximadamente a metade da área, são solos intemperizados, constituídos, principalmente de caulinita, óxidos de Fe e Al e estes óxidos têm grande influência na retenção de P. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os teores totais de P, assim como sua disponibilidade e retenção em Latossolos sob pastagens do Cerrado, e relacionar estes dados com suas características mineralógicas, granulométricas e químicas. As relações entre as características estudadas foram avaliadas por meio da análise de componentes principais e correlações de Pearson. O P disponível resina mostrou-se correlacionado negativamente com as características mineralógicas e granulométricas e positivamente com os teores de matéria orgânica do solo. Tanto os óxidos livres totais como os amorfos tiveram correlações negativas com o P remanescente (Prem). Os teores de gibbsita, goethita e hematita apresentaram correlações negativas com o Prem. Por outro lado, a caulinita não exerceu influência sobre o Prem, indicando a baixa participação desta na adsorção de P nos Latossolos do Cerrado. Observou-se correlação negativa entre o Prem e o C total, explicada pelo fato de o estoque de C aumentar linearmente com o conteúdo de argila e silte no solo. Indicators of soil quality associated with N‐cycling were assessed under different land‐use systems (native forest – NAT, reforestation with Araucaria angustifolia or Pinus taeda and agricultural use – AGR) to appraise the effects on the soil potential for N supply. The soil total N ranged from 2 to 4 g/kg (AGR and NAT, respectively), and the microbial biomass N ranged from 80 to 250 mg/kg, being higher in NAT and A. angustifolia, and lower in P. taeda and AGR sites. Activities of asparaginase (ca. 50–200 mg NH4+‐N/kg per h), glutaminase (ca. 200–800 mg NH4+‐N/kg per h) and urease (ca. 80–200 mg NH4+‐N/kg/h) were also more intense in the NAT and A. angustifolia‐reforested soils, indicating greater capacity for N mineralization. The NAT and AGR soils showed the highest and the lowest ammonification rate, respectively (ca. 1 and 0.4 mg NH4+‐N/kg per day), but the inverse for nitrification rate (ca. 12 and 26%), indicating a low capacity for N supply, in addition to higher risks of N losses in the AGR soil. A multivariate analysis indicated more similarity between NAT and A. angustifolia‐reforested sites, whilst the AGR soil was different and associated with a higher nitrification rate. In general, reforestation with the native species A. angustifolia had less impact than reforestation with the exogenous species P. taeda, considering the soil capacity for N supply. However, AGR use caused more changes, generally decrease in indicators of N‐cycling, showing a negative soil management effect on the sustainability of this agroecosystem.

-In no-till systems, two different soil conditions are created during the sowing operation: row and inter-row positions. The objectives of this study were to evaluate, using static and dynamic soil attributes, the influence of no-till sowing operation on creating better physical environment for soybean crop growth. A field transect with clay content ranging from 150 to 400 g kg -1 was selected in Ponta Grossa, Paraná State, Brazil, from a Typic Hapludox that has been cultivated under notill system for 16 years. After soybean harvest, 68 undisturbed soil samples were collected at both sowing row and inter-row positions. The following soil properties were evaluated: saturated hydraulic conductivity, air permeability, bulk density, total porosity, soil moisture at field capacity, texture, and total organic carbon. Multiple regressions among dynamic and static soil properties were fitted, and differences between sowing row and inter-rows were tested by paired t test. Saturated hydraulic conductivity and air permeability were positively correlated with macroporosity (r = 0.75 and 0.74, respectively; p<0.001). Total porosity, bulk density, air permeability, and macroporosity were position-dependent. In general, soil physical quality was higher at row position due to lower bulk density and higher total porosity, hydraulic conductivity, air permeability and macroporosity.Key words: Soil physical quality. RESUMO -No solo, a operação de semeadura direta aparentemente cria ambientes com condições diferenciadas para o desenvolvimento das culturas: as posições linha e entrelinha. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a influência da semeadura direta em criar ambientes (linhas) com maior qualidade física do solo para o desenvolvimento da soja, por meio de atributos físicos estáticos e dinâmicos. O estudo foi realizado no município de Ponta Grossa, estado do Paraná, Brasil, ao longo de uma transeção em Latossolo Vermelho distrófico, cultivado há 16 anos no sistema plantio direto. Após a colheita da soja foram coletadas 68 amostras de solo com estrutura indeformada nas posições linha e entrelinha de semeadura. Foram determinados os seguintes atributos: condutividade hidráulica saturada, permeabilidade ao ar, densidade do solo, porosidade total, conteúdo de água na capacidade de campo, textura do solo e carbono orgânico total. Foram testadas correlações múltiplas entre as propriedades físicas estáticas e dinâmicas do solo e comparados, pelo teste t, os atributos físicos do solo determinados na linha e entrelinha da cultura. As propriedades dinâmicas condutividade hidráulica saturada e permeabilidade ao ar correlacionaramse positivamente com a macroporosidade (r = 0,75 e 0,74, p<0,001, respectivamente). Os Latossolos da região do Cerrado apresentam mineralogia da fração argila relativamente simples, sendo constituídos principalmente por caulinita e óxidos de ferro e de alumínio. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar extrações sequênciais de ferro e de alumínio e relacioná-los à mineralogia, textura e teores de carbono orgânico em Latossolos da região do Cerrado. Coletaram-se 35 amostras na camada de 0-20 cm de Latossolos sob pastagem da região do Cerrado. Os teores de ferro e de alumínio extraídos pelo ataque total, ditionito-citrato-bicarbonato de sódio, oxalato ácido de amônia e pirofosfato de sódio foram analisados de acordo com a classe textural através do teste não paramétrico de Kruskal-Wallis. Em seguida estes dados foram relacionados com a mineralogia e o carbono orgânico por meio de uma análise de componentes principais. Independentemente da classe textural, os óxidos de ferro de alto grau de cristalinidade representaram a principal forma de ferro e se correlacionam positivamente com os teores totais de ferro. Os óxidos de alumínio apresentaram maior afinidade ao carbono orgânico do que os óxidos de ferro. Os teores de ferro e alumínio extraídos pelo pirofosfato foram estreitamente relacionados ao pH dos solos. The aim of this work was to perform a sequential extraction of iron and aluminium and to relate them to texture, mineralogy and organic carbon in Oxisols of the Cerrado region. The soil samples, 35 in total, were taken from the 0-20 cm layer in Oxisols under pasture located in the Brazilian Cerrado Region. The levels of iron and aluminum extracted by full attack, dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate, ammonium oxalate and sodium pyrophosphate were analyzed according to the textural classes using the Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric test. Then these data were related to the mineralogy and organic carbon through a principal component analysis. Whatever the textures, iron oxides of high degree of crystallinity were the main form of iron and are positively correlated with the iron total content. The aim of this study was to evaluate the residual effect of phosphorus (P) fertilizer applied to an Urochloa decumbens cv. Basilisk pasture on the P bioavailability to the following soybean crop. Low-productivity pasture, planted on an Oxisol in an experimental field at Embrapa Cerrados, was divided into three strips, each of 1.5 ha and fertilized by broadcasting annual applications of 0, 20 and 40 kg ha-1 of P2O5 for four years. After the pasture was desiccate with herbicide, soybeans were sown and fertilized with 0, 50 and 100 kg ha-1 of P2O5 applied within each strip, making a total of nine (3x3) P treatments. Residual available P content (Mehlich-1 and resin) from the pasture fertilization was lower than from soybean fertilization. However, the bioavailable residual P from the pasture, determined by P accumulated in plants, production of dry matter and grain yield, had similar availability to inorganic P applied to the soybean. Early P fertilization applied to pasture is technically feasible and can be used to maintain the pasture: it is recommended to replace corrective fertilization for following soybean crops.
