Aims and objectives/purpose/research questions: The aim of the study is to contribute to the debate about a possible contact-induced change in the heritage language and to examine whether there is contact-induced language change at the morpho-syntactic level in Turkish spoken in Germany. We focus on the perception and use of the converbs –Ip and –IncA in heritage Turkish. Design/methodology/approach: The perception and production of the converbs –Ip and –IncA by 30 German–Turkish bilinguals, who were born and have resided in Germany, are compared with those of the control group. Data and analysis: Two tasks are used in the study: a grammaticality judgement task and a picture-story description task. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses are utilized. Findings/conclusions: The analysis of the perception of the converbs by the participants revealed that the bilinguals’ perception of the grammatical constructions with –IncA and of the ungrammatical constructions with –Ip and –IncA differed significantly from that of the monolinguals; however, the perception of the grammatical constructions with –Ip was found to be similar between the bilingual and monolingual groups. The analysis of the production of the converbs by the bilingual participants showed that they tended to use the converbs significantly less than the monolingual control group did. The qualitative analysis of the production task also revealed that there were several cases in the use of the converbs that could be considered as ungrammatical and/or unconventional.
Abstract-Gas turbine engines have been widely used in electricity power generation in industry and aviation. The performance of gas turbine engines is limited by the temperature and strength capabilities of the materials used in the engine. Silicon nitride based ceramics have been expected to be candidates for gas turbine engine components due to their promising mechanical properties at high temperatures. On this basis, over the last 40 years large number of programs in the world has been working to produce ceramic components for gas turbines with the goals of increasing efficiency and lowering emissions. But there are some difficulties that limit the use of structural ceramics based silicon nitride in gas turbine components. Creep performance is one of those problems and creep performance of a material is one of the major factors for determining its high temperature application. In this study creep behavior of SiAlON ceramics, which are solid solutions of silicon nitride ceramics, were investigated at temperatures from 1100 ˚C to 1400 ˚C under stresses from 50 to 150 MPa in air.
Onomatopoeias are dened as words created using linguistic signs that imitate or evoke the sound heard. Onomatopoeias produces a vivid narrative and attract readers' attention and are often found in children's books. Therefore, the translation of onomatopoeias, which hold an important place in children's writing, is a subject to focus on. Although onomatopoeias have attracted very little attention from translation studies scholarship, they constitute an important interdisciplinary eld of study where translation studies and linguistics intersect. This study aims to make comparisons between languages and show the relationship between the onomatopoeias in the German-Turkish language pair with examples. To this end, the study analyses how onomatopoeias in the source text are rendered in the target text and language (Turkish) on the basis of Ulrich Hub's German children's book "An der Arche um Acht" (2020) ("Saat Sekizde Gemide", 2021). This crosslanguage comparison is aimed at analysing translation approaches by which onomatopoeias are translated in the target text, and the extent to which "child appropriateness" is considered in the translation. By doing so, this study attempts to examine similarities and differences between onomatopoeias in cross-language comparisons and offer some insights into translation and translated children's literature.
