Surabaya has long term experience in conducting slum upgrading program. Started from colonial era which known as KIP Verbetering until the most recent one, called KIP program (Comprehensive-KIP which was funding by Indonesian government). The last program tried to involve community participation by using Three Empowerment (Tri Daya) sustainability scheme : Environmental, Social, and Economic. People can participate as the decision maker, implementer or supervisor in this program. Based on this scheme, the C-KIP model spread its successes through the country and across the developing world. The combination between research and design methods, where the research strategy is using qualitative strategy is the method which used in this study. The data collection techniques are using documentation observation and stakeholders interview (community, facilitator and government). By empowering community's capacity, government had many advantages such as getting people to be more attentive to the program, reaching maximum result with a small budget, the implementation and monitoring program can be done by community, involving more people in getting benefits from the program, making room for people to participate and be responsible to take care of the program, etc.
Many low income households are supported by Home Based Enterprises (HBE) for their income generation. However the settlements in coastal areas have physical problems related to the corrosive land and climate condition, as well as the possibilities of natural hazards such as flooding (ADB, 2003 : UNHABITAT 2003). The rapid growths of cities especially in developing countries (DCs) contribute to social problems, serious burdens for human health and the environment. In order to improve the quality of human life in the coastal cities, some local government decided to remove some settlements to the inland area such as problems in some big coastal cities in Indonesia. In many cases, many resettlements of housing failed to meet community's and user's requirements. To reduce and avoid sustainability problems, it is necessary to have more insight and understanding of the used of space in coastal low income housing. This paper describes the use of communal spaces for daily activities which are indicating the lack of space available in coastal settlements in order to accomodate user's needs.
Various forms of quarantine and social restrictions to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted lifestyle. WFH has emerged as a growing trend in this new normal era. The implementation of WFH results in all work-related activities becoming home-centred. This study aims to analyse the pheasant and find out the effect of household appliance use on energy consumption during the implementation of WFH. The questionnaire survey was conducted in April 2020 and it collected 215 responses from residents of Indonesia, during the pandemic which was distributed online. The data were analysed using a multiple regression analysis with SPSS to determine the relationship between variables. The results showed that the length of WFH time affected an increase of energy consumption especially from the use of home computer, internet, rice cooker, AC, and water needs. In addition, the increase that happened also depends on the population living and the size of the building they live in. If this continues, it could lead to the risk of an energy crisis. Strategies related to proper distribution and energy demand are needed to build resilience and form a sustainable society.
The slums that occur in fishpond settlements are not only based on environmental conditions, but also based on people's perceptions about the slum standards themselves. Physically, fishing houses in coastal areas are larger than substandard materials, dense, coincide, make dirty, look more easy, settlements, fishermen, can be categorized as slums. The situation of this slum-looking settlement is the result of a very high increase in the flow of urbanization with the aim of survival and life in a place that needs more resources that can be used to sustain life. The method used for this study with the criteria for assessing fishermen settlements in the case study. The results of this study consist of factors that cause slums and slum free village criteria based on the conditions of fishermen settlements in the case study living in coastal fishermen settlements. Get results from studies that can help and become one that can be used for livable and slum-free assistance on topics that exist in fishing villages in Indonesia.
