Introduction: Composite polymerization is a polymer molecule formation from monomeric molecules. To obtain good physical and mechanical properties of composite resin restoration, the dental composite resin must have the possibility of an optimal quantity of its monomer converted to the polymer during the polymerization reaction. The type, size, and content of the fillers in the composite are also essential factors in the polymerization process. A hardness test can be used to indirectly measure the hardness ratio of the upper and lower surfaces of the composite material (relative curing degree). The objective of this study was to analyze the differences in the hardness ratio of the upper and lower surface between LED-activated hybrid composite resin and nano composite resin. Methods: Thirty composite resin samples were randomly selected and divided into 2 groups. Group I was the hybrid composite resin group and Group II was the nano composite resin group. Samples were then formed into discs with a diameter of 6mm and a thickness of 2mm and polymerized using LCU LED with a light intensity of 800 mW/cm2 for 20 seconds. After 24 hours, the upper and lower surfaces of each sample were tested for three testing points using Vickers Hardness Tester. The data were then analyzed using the t-test. Results: The hardness ratio between the upper and lower surfaces (relative curing degree) of the hybrid composite resin and nano composite resin was 0.93 and 0.88 consecutively. Conclusion: There is any difference between the upper and lower surface hardness ratio of LED-activated hybrid composite resin and nano composite resin.
Teeth with is treated with endodontic treatment has own problems, tends to be weaker because of dentin removal and reduced moisture content, so, requires post and crown restoration treatment. The principle of making restoration should be to restore function, esthetic, and to distribute chewing load, so, both teeth and its crown can be used in a long time in oral cavity. This case report described about 23-year-old female patient with a history of truma motor vehicle accident. Tooth 11,12,21 was fractured 2/3 crown with pulp exposed. The diagnosis which estabilished for this case is irreversible pulpitis and the treatment planning are one visit root canal treatment, post and fiber insertion and porcelain fused to metal restoration. On the first visit, acces preparation with crown down technique was done and rootcanals filled with gutta percha and sealer AH 26 with lateral condensation technique. Fiber post was insertion in next visit and cementation with dual-cured resin. Core was made in resin composite and porcelain fused to metal was inserted after control of patient condition in 1 week. One of those methods that used in this case is prefabricated glass fiber post, because of its biocompatibility, more aesthetic, has a modulus of elasticity which is resemble with dentine. Pressure that its transmitted by post to dentin is low, so, this is minimize a root fractured. The result of this treatment and the restoration was good, there were no patient complaints, and normal gingival seemed around the teeth. Restoration post endodontic treatment can be done with several techniques, one is post and porcelain fused to metal to produce a good restoration.
Introduction: Home bleaching is the whitening treatment of vital teeth applied by patients themselves at home under dentist supervision. In clinical condition, several patients who need bleaching treatment already had nano filled composite resin restoration on their teeth. The purpose of this study was to investigate the contact time difference of 10% carbamide peroxide bleaching gels application for home bleaching on the surface hardness of nano filled composite resin activated by Light Emitting Diode (LED). Methods: Total sample in this study was 30 samples, divided into 3 groups. The samples used were nano filled composite resin cylindrical shape with a diameter of 6 mm and a thickness of 2 mm. Group I as the control group was immersed in distilled water, group II was treated with immersion in 10% carbamide peroxide for 4 hours per day, and group III was immersed in 10% carbamide peroxide for 6 hours per day. The duration of treatment was 14 days for all groups. Data were analysed using Kruskal-Wallis with Mann-Whitney test and the p-value = 0.05. Results: The result of one-way Kruskal-Wallis with Mann-Whitney test showed that there were significant difference between the control group and the groups applied with 10% carbamide peroxide for 4 hours and 6 hours per day with the p-value 0.00 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Application of 10% carbamide peroxide decreasing the surface hardness of nano filled composite resins activated by LED.
Dental caries is a dental problem that often arises in children. One of the factors that affect higher oral health problem is child behavioral factors associated with its children's knowledge about oral health, so it is important to educate children’s to increase their knowledge that will changes the child's behavior in a positive direction. Children as educational objectives have characteristics according to their physical and cognitive developmen, is important aspect that need to be considered to determine the correct media that we used to learn something to children. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference effect of dental health education between leaflet and pocket book in third grade students. The method that used in this study is non-equivalent control group design, Samples were taken using quota sampling technique. Total samples are 40 children. Both group are given pre-test and then 20 children given education using Leaflet at SDN 17 and 20 children using pocket book at SDN 20. Post test are given on day 7 after education. This study used T dependent test and T independent test (p<0,05). Statistical analysis showed increasing knowledge of this study is significant, the value before and after the given education used leaflets and pocket bookwith significant value of 0,000 (p<0,05). there is different between both media in incresing knowledge, with significant value of 0.003(p>0,05). Leaflet showed an increase of knowledge is greater when compared with the use of a pocket book. Conclusion, leafletis an effective media to increase oral knowledge of dental health. Keyword :leaflet, pocket book, increase of knowledge
