A cobertura de temas ambientais, historicamente pouco e mal realizada, na última década vêm se defrontando com novas questões, as quais dizem dos tempos nos quais vivemos. Se em função da especificidade do tema, muitas vezes demasiado abstrato e localizado, a formação jornalística não encontra ferramentas para conectar com o noticiário ancorado no factual, quando versões pouco ortodoxas acerca de questões ambientais emergem e ganham força, surge um dilema: qual o limite de reproduzir discursos de fontes oficiais, independentemente de sua relevância e precisão, em nome da dita objetividade jornalística? Assim, a guerra de narrativas que assola o planeta tem tornado ainda mais árdua a tarefa de narrar o mundo: o negacionismo climático e os movimentos que advogam o terraplanismo fazem terra arrasada de debates que pareciam superados, tornando mais uma perspectiva algo que é consensual no campo científico. Não obstante a gravidade desta situação quando o que está em jogo são temas complexos e de alta abstração, recentemente enfrentamos também a recusa do reconhecimento de questões absolutamente materiais, como quando, diante das queimadas que destroem o Pantanal e a Amazônia, deixando um rastro visível de mortes e destruição, há quem diga que não há fogo.
