Present paper discusses ethnobotanical and nutritional potential of Gonostegia hirta (Blume ex Hassk.) Miq. (Urticaceae), an important food and medicinal plant, used by the local communities of Arunachal Pradesh namely Galo, Nyishi, Tagin and the Adi. Its fast and gregarious growth habit, nutritious and slippery nature of the leafy parts made it one of the most favorite raw materials for preparation of traditional cuisine of Abotani tribes of Arunachal Pradesh.
