Inflamasi atau radang merupakan reaksi lokal jaringan terhadap infeksi atau cedera dan melibatkan lebih banyak mediator. Inflamasi memiliki angka kejadian yang cukup tinggi, dimana inflamasi dapat disebabkan oleh trauma fisik, infeksi maupun reaksi antigen dari suatu penyakit. Salah satu tanaman yang dapat digunakan sebagai antiinflamasi adalah bawang merah (Allium cepa L.). Bawang merah memiliki kandungan senyawa flavonoid yaitu kuarsetin yang diyakini dapat digunakan sebagai antiinflamasi. Ekstraksi dilakukan secara maserasi mengunakan pelarut etanol 96%, lalu ekstrak diformulasikan menjadi krim M/A dan dievaluasi mutu fisik meliputi uji organoleptis, uji homogenitas, uji pH, uji daya sebar, uji daya lekat dan uji stabilitas pada hari 1 sampai minggu ke 6. Hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa formula krim ekstrak kulit umbi bawang merah (Allium cepa L) dengan konsentrasi ekstrak 160 lebih baik dibandingkan formula dengan konsentrasi ekstrak 0,32% dilihat dari perbedaan hasil uji daya lekat dan daya sebar yang dihasilkan oleh formula 1 lebih baik. Krim dengan konsentrasi zat aktif 0,16% memiliki mutu fisik yang stabil dalam penyimpanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas antiinflamasi krim ekstrak kulit bawang merah dan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi krim ekstrak kulit bawang merah yang memiliki aktivitas antiinflamasi pada mencit putih jantan menggunakan metode rangsang panas dengan alat hot-plate dan metode induksi karagenan 1% pada telapak kaki mencit. Pada penelitian ini digunakan hewan coba berupa mencit jantan yang dibagi menjadi empat kelompok masing-masing terdiri dari enam ekor mencit. Kelompok A sebagai kontrol negatif diberi basis krim, kelompok B sebagai kontrol positif diberi emulgel Voltaren (Natrium diklofenak), kelompok C sebagai kelompok uji diberi krim ekstrak kulit bawang merah konsentrasi 0,16%, kelompok D sebagai kelompok uji diberi krim ekstrak kulit bawang merah konsentrasi 0,32%. Pengukuran volume inflamasi dilakukan selama 5 jam dengan interval 60 menit. Pengukuran daya antiinflamasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan Plastimometer. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa krim ekstrak kulit bawang merah konsentrasi 0,16% dan 0,32% memiliki efek antiinflamasi pada mencit yang diinduksi karagenan dengan krim ekstrak kulit umbi bawang merah konsentrasi 0,32% memiliki efek antiinflamasi yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan krim ekstrak kulit umbi bawang merah konsentrasi 0,16%.
Sosis merupakan salah satu bahan pangan olahan yang berbahan dasar daging yang memiliki daya simpan yang relatif singkat. Sehingga dengan alasan tersebut banyak produsen yang menambahkan bahan pengawet pada produk hasil olahannya dan tidak menutup kemungkinan bahwa jenis bahan pengawet yang digunakan berupa formalin. Formalin merupakan Bahan Tambahan Pangan (BTP) yang penggunaannya dilarang oleh pemerintah karena berbahaya bagi kesehatan. Kandungan asam dan saponin yang terdapat pada asam jawa kemungkinan dapat dimanfaatkan untuk proses pemutusan ikatan yang terjadi antara formalin dengan protein. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi konsentrasi perendaman larutan asam jawa terhadap penurunan kadar formalin pada sosis. Perendaman dengan larutan asam jawa dimaksudkan larutan asam jawa tersebut dapat menyerap kadar formalin yang terkandung dalam sosis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental secara kuantitatif. Perlakuan yang diberikan pada unit eksperimen adalah dengan perlakuan perendaman terhadap sosis berformalin dengan variasi konsentrasi larutan asam jawa yaitu 60%; 80%; dan 100% yang diuji secara kuantitatif menggunakan asam kromatrofat dan H2SO4 pekat dengan metode Spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Data yang dihasilkan dianalisis dengan uji statistik inferensial parametrik one way Anova dengan Posthoct Test menggunakan Tukey HSD dan Bonferroni. Penurunan kadar formalin pada sosis setelah perendaman dengan larutan asam jawa pada konsentrasi 60%; 80%; dan 100% berturut-turut sebanyak 12,7%; 38,7%; dan 45,3%. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh perendaman dengan variasi konsentrasi larutan asam jawa pada konsentrasi 80% (P=0,000) dan 100% (P=0,000) berdasarkan uji statistik inferensial parametrik one way Anova.
Virus corona atau COVID 19 merupakan virus yang menyebabkan penyakit pada hewan atau manusia. COVID-19 lebih sering menyerang saluran pernapasan. Peningkatan imunitas pasien COVID-19, sangat diperlukan dikarenakan pengobatan COVID-19 belum ditemukan. Vitamin C merupakan vitamin yang dapat mencegah dan mengobati infeksi pernapasan dengan meningkatkan berbagai fungsi sel kekebalan tubuh. Vitamin C bertindak sebagai antioksidan kuat dan membantu mengganti sel-sel yang rusak sehingga dapat membantu pada COVID-19. Studi literatur ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan vitamin C sebagai imunomodulator pada pasien dewasa COVID-19. Metode pengambilan data diperoleh dengan mereview 10 jurnal dengan menggunakan google scholar dan Pubmed dengan menggunakan jurnal berbahasa inggris. Adapun kata kunci yang digunakan yaitu vitamin C, COVID-19, treatment. Hasil yang diperoleh berupa pemberian vitamin C secara intravena dengan dosis tinggi dapat meningkatkan perbaikan kehidupan pasien COVID-19 dengan meningkatkan kekebalan tubuh pasien yang terinfeksi. Hal tersebut terlihat dari dihambatnya perkembangan dari sitokin dan meningkatkan limfosit serta sel T CD4+. Selain itu, meningkatkan fungsi pernafasan pasien dengan terjadi peningkatan pada PiO2/FiO2.
Paparan sinar matahari berlebih menyebabkan masalah kulit kemerahan, peradangan, bahkan kanker kulit. Cara melindungi kulit dari sinar matahari yaitu menggunakan tabir surya. Daun ceremai (Phyllanthus acidus L.) mengandung flavonoid dan tanin yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai tabir surya. Tujuan penelitian adalah mengetahui potensi tabir surya sediaan krim ekstrak etanol daun ceremai (Phyllanthus acidus L.) dengan metode spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Potensi tabir surya ditentukan berdasarkan nilai persen transmisi eritema (%Te), persen transmisi pigmentasi (%Tp) dan nilai SPF. Dari penelitian, diperoleh potensi tabir surya berdasarkan %Te konsentrasi 250 ppm dan 300 ppm termasuk kategori regular suntan. Berdasarkan nilai %Tp pada konsentrasi 100 ppm hingga 300 ppm memberikan perlindungan total terhadap paparan sinar UV-A. Berdasarkan nilai SPF, krim pada konsentrasi 100 ppm dan 150 ppm termasuk kategori proteksi minimal (SPF 2,597 dan 3,624), konsentrasi 200 ppm proteksi sedang (SPF 5,129), konsentrasi 250 ppm proteksi ekstra (SPF 7,201), dan konsentrasi 300 ppm proteksi maksimal (SPF 10,225).
Apotek merupakan sumber utama dalam mendapatkan antibiotik. Akses antibiotik tanpa resep di apotek adalah hal umum di berbagai negara termasuk di Indonesia. Penjualan antibiotik tanpa resep dokter di apotek telah menjadi masalah global khususnya di negara berkembang. Walaupun demikian, faktor dominan yang menyebabkan perilaku penjualan antibiotik tanpa resep di apotek Indonesia belum diketahui secara pasti. Tujuan ditulisnya artikel ini untuk mengetahui faktor dominan yang mempengaruhi perilaku penjualan dan penggunaan antibiotik tanpa resep dokter di apotek. Metode yang digunakan yaitu dengan melakukan penelusuran pustaka pada situs pencarian seperti Google Scholar dengan kata kunci “antibiotik tanpa resep, perilaku pasien, tenaga farmasi, apotek”. Dimana hasilnya yaitu faktor yang mempengaruhi perilaku penjualan dan penggunaan antibiotik tanpa resep dokter yaitu faktor kemudahan akses memperoleh antibiotik dan faktor penghematan biaya, attitude(sikap) pasien dan rekomendasi dari teman/kerabat.
