1 The displacement of bilirubin from its binding sites in cord serum by sulphadimethoxine and various penicillins was studied using Sephadex gel filtration. 2 Sulphadimethoxine displaced bilirubin at concentrations well within the normal therapeutic range of sulphonamide concentrations.3 Amoxycillin, clavulanic acid in combination with either amoxycillin or ticarcillin, temocillin and cloxacillin displaced bilirubin at concentrations much higher than those found clinically.4 It was concluded that the primary binding site/s of sulphadimethoxine and the secondary binding site/s of the penicillins were at or near the primary bilirubin binding site.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
