Resumo A ideia de crime organizado nasceu num contexto normativo para designar um problema social. Todavia, o desenvolvimento da teorização a seu respeito poucas vezes esclareceu seu problema sociológico. O objetivo deste artigo é resgatar o que o crime organizado tem a dizer sobre ação, ordem e mudança sociais. Para isso, revisa estudos que inauguram uma perspectiva inovadora de descrição ou explicação do objeto. A conclusão é de que, caso seja tratado com clareza sociológica, o crime organizado tem muito a contribuir para a teorização sociológica, pois representa um caso-limite para essas três questões basais de toda e qualquer teoria social.
