Eosinophilic polymorphic and pruritic eruption associated with radiotherapy (EPPER) is a rare entity that appears in oncological patients after radiotherapy. We describe two patients with breast tumour who presented with EPPER in a different area from the one that had been irradiated. One of them needed different types of treatment, topical and systemic corticosteroids, antihistamines and narrowband ultraviolet B. The other one responded to the application of topical corticosteroids. We suggested that this eruption could be more frequent than has been reported.
A 64-year-old female had breast carcinoma of the right breast, and a mastectomy was performed. Three years later she developed a vesiculobullous eruption along the surgical scar. Histopathological and direct immunofluorescence findings were consistent with a diagnosis of pemphigus vulgaris. We discuss the possible pathogenesis for this striking linear distribution of the pemphigus vulgaris lesions.
Colombia is one of the major producers and exporters of banana
Musa paradisiaca
. Its consumption is high then its agro-industrial wastes are important source to extract pectin. In the present study, inorganic acids (nitric acid and hydrochloride acid) and organic acids (citric acid and acetic acid) were evaluated to extract pectin from banana peels at pH 2 and 3, through acid hydrolysis during 1h at the temperature of 85 °C. The extraction yield, degree of esterification (DE) and intrinsic viscosity of the pectin were characterized. Nitric acid (NA) allowed to obtain higher extraction yield (54 ± 10%) and citric acid (CA) allowed to obtain higher DE (76.7 ± 2%). Additionally, the effect of polymer concentration and degree esterification, low degree of esterification (LDE, 33.1%) and high degree of esterification (HDE, 76.7%) were evaluated in the pectin nanoparticles formation. The pectin with HDE formed stable nanoparticles with a particle size of 255 ± 11 nm and the zeta potential value of -45 ± 3 mV, independently of the polymer concentration. Morphology analysis showed aggregated of the pectin nanoparticles.
Cutaneous effects secondary to lymphograpy are rare events. We herein report a patient with Hodgkin’s disease who developed a linear dermatitis in both lower limbs 6 days after a pedal lymphograpy. Histopathologic examination of the lesions demonstrated a subacute dermatitis. Patch tests with the substances used in the lymphography yielded negative results. We dicuss the possible pathogenic mechanisms of this striking linear dermatitis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
