Postlymphography Linear Dermatitis

Abstract: Cutaneous effects secondary to lymphograpy are rare events. We herein report a patient with Hodgkin’s disease who developed a linear dermatitis in both lower limbs 6 days after a pedal lymphograpy. Histopathologic examination of the lesions demonstrated a subacute dermatitis. Patch tests with the substances used in the lymphography yielded negative results. We dicuss the possible pathogenic mechanisms of this striking linear dermatitis.

“…Noninfectious dermatitis following a lymphatic course has been described after lymphatic opacification by Evans blue [12] or a radiopaque iodized substance [13], use of topical cantharidin [14, 15] or intralesional bleomycin [16] in the treatment of verruca vulgaris, accidental administration of polysaccharide [17] and local corticosteroid injection [18]. In our observations, a toxic or allergic process induced by an arthropod bite can be hypothesized, with local injection of a toxin contained in the secretion.…”
