In order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, whether ready or not, education policy makers in Indonesia have established a policy of online learning from home. Some schools use a special Learning Management System (LMS) application, while others simply use existing common communication applications, including WhatsApp Messenger. This study aims to measure its usability in its use as an online learning medium. This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach. The data were obtained from an online survey of students and teachers who were determined by convenience sampling technique. Measurements were carried out with ISO for HCI and Usability 2001. The results showed that the Usability of WhatsApp was rated in the sufficient category, close to the good category.
Education stakeholders in Indonesia have made rapid adjustments due to the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak that demanded social distancing to avoid it. Yayasan Pendidikan Budi Utomo Makassar also issued a policy that changed the learning methods from offline to online. The current research was aimed to find out the behaviors of students facing this sudden policy. It was conducted with a qualitative approach. Data were collected from observations of several Yayasan Pendidikan Budi Utomo Makassar’s students. The results showed that students obeyed the policy. Some of them learned and did the tasks as expected, but some others skipped the lessons, postponed doing assignments, and complained through the online communication media that had been provided.
The Quran memorization is a highly recommended education in Islam. At the same time the internet has penetrated and become an irremovable part of all fields of human life, including santri life. Some are optimistic, but some are worried about the harm. The present study will discuss on how the internet utilized among Qur'an memorizers, and how it did affect to the achievement of each of them. It is different with the other scholars who have compared different groups of internet user and proposed contradictory conclusions. The surveys confirm that the Quran memorizers who have various techniques of memorizing, all aimed to utilize internet to increase the knowledge, but they are ultimately affected to use for social satisfactions and mere fun. Furthermore, the experiment has resulted that the increasing achievement has been performed during the internet banning, whereas the decrease happened at the access allowance.
The number of smartphone users in Indonesia is increasing every year and has been growing rapidly since Covid-19 hit Indonesia. Smartphones store a lot of personal and information data, such as photos, videos, contact lists, e-mails to social media accounts. A large amount of personal data on smartphones causes an increasing number of threats to information security and privacy. This study aims to measure the knowledge and level of awareness of smartphone users in Indonesia on information security and privacy. This study modify the existing measurement methods. The results showed that there are still many Indonesians do not know the information security and privacy on their smartphones. The results also show that the level of information security awareness among Indonesians is still low.
