IntroductIonThe skeletal system together with parenchymal organs, such as the liver and lungs, are the most common sites of metastases. In prostate and breast cancer, bone metastases can be observed in 47% to 85% of the patients, while in the lung, urinary bladder, and kidney cancer, they are present in 30% to 45% of the cases. The most common site of bone metastases is the lumbosacral segment of the spine. 1,2The early diagnosis of metastases to the skeletal system in patients with malignant tumors is particularly important for further therapeutic management. An accurate diagnosis of solitary hot spots in the spine is crucial in patients who are referred for bone scintigraphy.
