Masson pine is an important timber and resource for oleoresin in South China. Increasing yield of oleoresin in stems can raise economic benefits and enhance the resistance to bark beetles. However, the genetic mechanisms for regulating the yield of oleoresin were still unknown. Here, high-throughput sequencing technology was used to investigate the transcriptome and compare the gene expression profiles of high and low oleoresin-yielding genotypes. A total of 40,690,540 reads were obtained and assembled into 137,499 transcripts from the secondary xylem tissues. We identified 84,842 candidate unigenes based on sequence annotation using various databases and 96 unigenes were candidates for terpenoid backbone biosynthesis in pine. By comparing the expression profiles of high and low oleoresin-yielding genotypes, 649 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. GO enrichment analysis of DEGs revealed that multiple pathways were related to high yield of oleoresin. Nine candidate genes were validated by QPCR analysis. Among them, the candidate genes encoding geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase (GGPS) and (-)-alpha/beta-pinene synthase were up-regulated in the high oleoresin-yielding genotype, while tricyclene synthase revealed lower expression level, which was in good agreement with the GC/MS result. In addition, DEG encoding ABC transporters, pathogenesis-related proteins (PR5 and PR9), phosphomethylpyrimidine synthase, non-specific lipid-transfer protein-like protein and ethylene responsive transcription factors (ERFs) were also confirmed to be critical for the biosynthesis of oleoresin. The next-generation sequencing strategy used in this study has proven to be a powerful means for analyzing transcriptome variation related to the yield of oleoresin in masson pine. The candidate genes encoding GGPS, (-)-alpha/beta-pinene, tricyclene synthase, ABC transporters, non-specific lipid-transfer protein-like protein, phosphomethylpyrimidine synthase, ERFs and pathogen responses may play important roles in regulating the yield of oleoresin. These DEGs are worthy of special attention in future studies.

e effects of fermentation conditions (temperature, time, and pH) and plucking standards (one leaf and a bud to four leaves and a bud) on the chemical components and sensory quality of the fermented juices processed from crushed fresh tea leaves were investigated. e results showed that optimum fermentation conditions that resulted in fermented juices of the best sensory quality and the highest content of TFs were a temperature of 35°C, time duration of 75 min, and pH 5.1. e fermented juices processed from new shoots with three leaves and a bud or four leaves and a bud afforded high overall acceptability and TF concentration. ese differences arise because tea leaves with different plucking standards have different catechin content and enzyme activities. Fermented tea juice possessed higher concentrations of chemical components such as soluble solids, amino acids, and TFs and exhibited better sensory quality as compared to black tea infusion. e TF concentrations decreased as the pH of the fermenting juice increased, and the fermented juice showed the best overall acceptability. ese results provide essential information for the improvement of the processing of black tea beverage by suggesting fermentation of fresh tea leaves as a better alternative to their infusion.

Compared with other agricultural plants, information about uptake effects of toxic heavy metals from growth soils into persimmon and jujube are scarce. In this study, the single and comprehensive uptake effects of five toxic heavy metals (Pb, As, Cd, Cr, and Hg) between the two fruits and their growth soils were investigated. The results showed that the average concentrations of heavy metals in the two fruits were found to be 30 (Pb), 6.6 (As), 2.3 (Cd), 38 (Cr), and 0.33 (Hg) μg/kg, respectively. The average concentrations of heavy metals in their growth soils were 26.31 (Pb), 9.63 (As), 0.12 (Cd), 57.6 (Cr), and 0.049 (Hg) mg/kg, respectively. An uptake effect was observed for the two fruits. The values of Nemerow pollution index (NPI) in the two fruits and their growth soils were 0.10 and 0.55, respectively. The average bioconcentration factor (BCF) values of Pb, As, Cd, Cr, and Hg in the two fruits were 0.0012, 0.00075, 0.021, 0.00077, and 0.012, respectively. Based on the residue levels of toxic heavy metals in the growth soils and soil parameters, the prediction models for NPI and BCF were established, with the adjusted regression coefficients of 0.65 (NPI) and 0.81 (BCF). The contribution rates of different soil parameters to NPI were 21.7% (OC), 16.1% (Pb), 17.1% (Cr), 19.8% (Cd), and 25.4% (As), respectively. The contribution rates of different soil parameters to BCF were 10.2% (OC), 9.4% (Cr), and 80.4% (Cd), respectively.

The dissipation and distribution of chlorpyrifos (CHP) granule formulation in bamboo forest under soil surface mulching conditions (CP) and noncovered cultivation conditions (NCP) from soil to product were investigated. In the CP treatment, the CHP granule with slow-release effect leached from the topsoil to the subsoil. Conversely, the CHP was fixed in the topsoil (0-5 cm layer) in the NCP treatment, and no obvious leaching effect could be observed. The residue of CHP could be found in bamboo shoots from CP treatment, mainly at the bottom part (5 cm length). CHP could be degraded into 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCP) in the soil and bamboo shoots. In addition, the straw used as the mulching material with higher OM and pH had some regulatory role in changing the pH and OM characteristics of the soil. Thus the straw could indirectly affect the adsorption and degradation behavior of CHP and TCP in the soil.
