Introdução: O trabalho do policial militar pode aumentar a privação de sono e desencadear chances de acidentes automobilísticos, lesões provocadas por perseguições em ambientes sem iluminação, abordagens errôneas e fatalidades em confrontos com armas de fogo ou decaimento no desempenho do trabalho. Objetivo: O objetivo deste trabalho é relatar a prevalência do risco para síndrome da apneia obstrutiva do sono (SAOS) e sonolência diurna entre PMs na região metropolitana de Belém, no estado do Pará. Metodologia: Este foi um estudo piloto transversal, a qual utilizou-se de 80 PMs que trabalham no estado do Pará, norte do Brasil para responder 3 questionários digitalizados. Os questionários foram aplicados pela plataforma google forms e o primeiro questionário foi sobre perguntas epidemiológicas, o segundo foi o questionário STOP-Bang (QSB),o terceiro foi a Escala de Sonolência de Epworth (ESS) e a análise estática foi realizada por frequência relativa e absoluta. Resultados: 6 indivíduos os quais tinham tanto risco intermediário quanto risco a sonolência diurna, com as patentes mais prevalentes de ocorrer esse evento foram em ordem decrescente: cabo; sargento, capitão e major. Já outros 5 indivíduos apresentaram quadros mais alarmantes derisco alto para SAOS quanto risco a sonolência diurna e assim como supracitado novamente as patentes mais prevalentes desta ocorrência foram cabo; sargento e capitão. Conclusão:Concluímos que apesar do número reduzido da amostra identificou-se alta prevalência da apneia obstrutiva do sono em policiais militares trabalhando em turno ou escala noturna quando comparada à população em geral do estudo.
Introdução: A utilização de terapias coadjuvantes ao tratamento da DP vem apresentando significativa melhora nos casos, sendo a ozônioterapia (OT) uma delas. Na literatura a OT tem sido utilizada como antimicrobiano, imunomodulador, analgésico, reparador tecidual e anti-inflamatório.Objetivo: Tem como objetivo relatar um caso de periodontite estágio II com quadro de agudização tratado com terapia periodontal não cirúrgica associada com ozônioterapia. Relato de Caso: Paciente gênero masculino, 70 anos, diabético tipo II e hipertenso, sendo comorbidades ambas controladas compareceu a clínica de especialização em periodontia de uma faculdade queixando-se sobre uma secreção purulenta que ocorria de forma recorrente nas regiões superior e inferior. Ao exame clínico verificou-se a presença de biofilme e cálculos dentários em ambas arcadas, ausência de elementos dentários, mobilidade dentária grau III nos elementos 33, 43 e 44 e bolsas periodontais com profundidade acima de 10mm e secreção purulenta nos elementos 13, 14, 15 e 16. Após liberação médica, tratamento iniciou com irrigação de água ozonizada com concentração de 60% nas áreas de supuração e aplicação de gel ozonizado com concentração de 10% durante 7 dias, em seguida 2 sessões de raspagem não cirúrgica periodontal e irrigação de água ozonizada com concentração de 60% nas áreas das bolsas periodontais, contudo devido a não redução da profundidade de sondagem nos elementos 13, 14, 15 e 16 foi proposto raspagem em campo aberto e irrigação de água ozonizada à 60% para descontaminação das regiões.Conclusão: Conclui-se que a OT apresentou um resultado positivo como terapia coadjuvante na melhora do quadro agudo do paciente, contudo deve-se salientar a não substituição do tratamento periodontal convencional e higienização pela OT e sim a junção das três técnicas.
Introdução: A piezoeletricidade surgiu em meados do século XIX, o piezo ultrassônico consiste na utilização de um aparelho ultrassônico, capaz de cortar tecido ósseo mineralizado, sem lesionar o tecido mole sendo essa uma de suas principais vantagens quando comparado às técnicas convencionais com brocas, serras e instrumentais. Objetivo: Este estudo tem como objetivo, realizar uma revisão de literatura acerca das diversas utilizações do piezoeletricidade na odontologia. Materiais e Metódos: Para a elaboração desse artigo foi realizada uma revisão narrativa da literatura, utilizando as bases de dados: PUBMED/ MEDLINE, Google acadêmico, Scielo, Revodonto, LILACS, BBO e Portal CAPES. Foram selecionados artigos que abordassem os assuntos cirurgia com ultrassom, piezocirúrgico, técnicas cirúrgicas alternativas e aparelhos cirúrgicos de vibração. Discussão: De acordo com a teoria dos irmãos Curie o efeito piezoelétrico acontece através do uso de tipos específicos de cerâmicas e cristais como o quartzo, os quais sofrem deformações quando uma corrente elétrica passa através deles, resultando em oscilações de frequência ultrassônica e quando aplica-se sobre uma superfície estas vibrações mecânicas geram uma ruptura na coesão molecular provocam cavitações nesta superfície. Conclusão: O piezocirúrgico ultrassônico demonstra ser um dispositivo seguro e eficaz para a realização de procedimentos cirúrgicos na odontologia, devido a proteção aos tecidos moles, melhor hemostasia, diminuição do ruído e vibração, diminuição do estresse e medo do paciente, minimização de dano a estruturas nobres como feixes vásculo nervoso.
