Objectives: to determine the prevalence and the association between socio-demographic, obstetric and nutritional variables and anxiety symptoms in pregnant women. Methods: the study involved cohorts with five follow-up stages. A cross-sectional analysis was carried out of 151 pregnant women. The presence or absence of anxiety was treated as the dependent variable, which was measured between 19 and 21 weeks of gestation. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAIT) scale was used to evaluate the anxiety trait. The socio-demographic, obstetric and nutritional data obtained using a questionnaire were treated as independent variables. The statistical analysis was performed using a multivariate Poisson regression with robust variance. Results: the mean age was 25 years and mean level of schooling nine years. The prevalence of anxiety was 64. ). The anxiety trait was associated with age between 18 and 24.9 years (PR=1.35; 95%CI: 1.06-1.71) and 1-8 years of schooling (PR=1.39; 95%CI: 1.11-1.73).Conclusions: it was observed that the anxiety trait was highly prevalent in this sample of pregnant women whose progress was followed at a health care center. Knowledge of the factors associated with the anxiety is of fundamental importance in allowing the health team to intervene in a timely and appropriate fashion in a pregnant woman's treatment.
The purpose of this systematic literature review is to examine previous studies that investigated the relation between depression and binge eating disorder (BED). Medline/PubMed published data from 1980 through 2006 was tracked using the following keywords: "binge eating disorder and depression", "periodic binge eating and depression", "binge eating disorder" and "periodic binge eating". The findings of 14 studies were successfully highlighted: one cohort, four cross-sectional and nine case-control studies. Most studies (7/14) were conducted in the United States, with missing data varying between 2.3 and 44.32%, and seven studies emphasizing the most important variables. The majority of the studies (10/14) showed an association between depression and binge eating disorder, but carefully designed studies are required to minimize the limitations found in these studies.
The implications of Zika Virus exposure in pregnancy for early infant growth remains poorly described. The main goal of this study is to compare the growth, body composition, and feeding modality of infants in the first three months of life by prenatal Zika Virus exposure status. We selected an analytical cohort of 115 infants born without microcephaly, comprising 56 infants with qRT-PCR confirmed exposure to ZIKV during gestation and 59 infants born to women with presumptively no evidence of ZIKV in pregnancy. Infants were evaluated at birth, 1 and 3 months of age in terms of anthropometrics, body composition All the results were adjusted by maternal age, maternal BMI and gestational age. We observe no differences between anthropometric measurements at birth. Mothers in exposed group showed higher BMI. At 1 month and 3 months of age there were differences in mid arm circumference, arm muscle circumference and fat free mass. Weight and length was less in the ZIKV exposed in pregnancy infants and statistically different at 3 month of age. The findings of this investigation provide new evidence that ZIKV exposure in pregnancy may be associated with differences in body composition.
This systematic review aimed to examine the results of studies that have investigated the induction of panic attacks and/or the anxiogenic effect of the caffeine challenge test in patients with panic disorder. The literature search was performed in PubMed, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde and the ISI Web of Knowledge. The words used for the search were caffeine, caffeine challenge test, panic disorder, panic attacks and anxiety disorder. In total, we selected eight randomized, double-blind studies where caffeine was administered orally, and none of them controlled for confounding factors in the analysis. The percentage of loss during follow-up ranged between 14.3% and 73.1%. The eight studies all showed a positive association between caffeine and anxiogenic effects and/or panic disorder.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
