Objective -To determine the characteristics associated with the dropout of patients followed up in a Brazilian out patient clinic specializing in hypertension. 1.78 (1.28-2.48). Age increase was associated with a higher probability of follow-up with a relative risk of 0.98 (0.97-0.99

BackgroundGroup B Streptococcus (GBS) is one of the most important causative agents of neonatal sepsis. As administration of prophylactic antibiotics during labor can prevent GBS infection, routine screening for this bacterium in prenatal care before the onset of labor is recommended. However, many women present in labor without having undergone such testing during antenatal care, and the turnaround time of detection methods is insufficient for results to be obtained before delivery.MethodsVaginal and anorectal specimens were collected from 270 pregnant women. Each sample was tested by Xpert GBS, qPCR, and culture for GBS detection.ResultsThe overall prevalence of maternal GBS colonization was 30.7% according to Xpert GBS, 51.1% according to qPCR, and 14.3% according to cultures. Considering the qPCR method as the reference, the Xpert GBS had a sensitivity of 53% and specificity of 93%. Positive Xpert GBS results were correlated to marital status (married or cohabitating) and with prematurity as a cause of neonatal hospitalization. Positive cultures were related with ischemic–hypoxic encephalopathy requiring therapeutic hypothermia.ConclusionsCombined enrichment/qPCR and the Xpert GBS rapid test found a high prevalence of GBS colonization. The Xpert GBS technique gives faster results and could be useful for evaluating mothers who present without antenatal GBS screening results and are at risk of preterm labor, thus allowing institution of prophylactic antibiotic therapy.
Decreased serum estradiol levels and altered PRL secretion after TRH administration in infertile patients with minimal/mild endometriosis are related to ovulatory dysfunction and infertility in this group of patients without tubal occlusion.
Background: Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is a rare autosomal recessively inherited bleeding disorder of platelet function. Pregnancy in BSS is associated with a high risk of serious bleeding for both mother and neonate, and current data show no consensual approach. Aim: To report the case of a pregnant woman with BSS, in order to provide more information about management of these cases. Case Presentation: This case report describes a successful pregnancy outcome in a woman with BSS who was closely monitored throughout pregnancy and postpartum period, and had a judiciously planned birth. Conclusion: Management of BSS during pregnancy is still unclear. However, it is important to strictly control platelet counts and plan the birth in advance.
Asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction in puerperal women shows a high prevalence and a pattern of long term echocardiographic changes similar to those found in overt peripartum cardiomyopathy.
In this report, we will describe the results of a cross-sectional study to assess PRL and GH secretion during the early follicular phase in 22 fertile patients after metoclopramide administration in order to achieve a dopaminergic DA2 receptor blockade. Blood samples were collected at - 15, 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes. PRL, GH, estradiol, IGF-I, TSH, glucose, and insulin were measured in the samples taken at - 15 and 0 minutes. The existence of a correlation between GH and PRL secretion was investigated. All patients presented normal serum levels of estradiol, prolactin, insulin, fasting glucose and IGF-I. Serum GH levels were not changed after metoclopramide infusion (p = 0.302), but there was a significant alteration in serum PRL (p = 0.0001) with the highest levels after 30 (mean: 237.20 ng/ml +/- 95.86) and 45 (mean: 211.80 ng/ml +/- 83.24) minutes. Serum GH levels did not correlate with serum PRL levels after the dopaminergic DA2 blockade. We conclude that GH secretion was not modulated by a direct effect of type 2 dopamine receptor.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
