ABSTRACTThe objective of this work was evaluate stay-green trait behavior in wheat plants as bread-making quality through eletrophoretic standars of this proteins and phenotypic Pearson correlation among adaptatives caracters as head-date and plant stature, coloration (stay-green) and proteic scores. The experiment was driven in field conditions and laboratory in the years of 1999 and 2000. The trait stay-green expressed in the appraised genotypes showed high correlation with the proteic scores obtained through the eletrophoretic analysis of this subunits could be suggested as parameter to select superior plants for glutenins and consequently with larger bread-making quality.

ABSTRACTSelection on the phenotype basis can be affected by environmental factors; forcing the plant-breeder to isolate genetic and environmental factors. The objective of this work was to evaluate the yield components of oat segregant populations subjected to different methods. Eight populations were planted in random block design with two replicates, according to three different models: spaced plant, full line and hill. Panicles with weight higher than mean plus one standard deviation were selected and measured for grain weight and grain number per panicle. Results showed a significant interaction between populations and environmental factors. Heritability was high, excepted for grain number/panicle on the full line models. Panicle weight can be an efficient trait to select genotypes in order to order increase grain yield.
ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to evaluate the energetic performance in the process of intermittent drying of white oat grains at three different air temperatures and final moisture. White oat grains (Avena sativa L.), UPFA 20 Teixeirinha cultivar produced at Palma Experimental Station of the Federal University of Pelotas, 2003Pelotas, /2004 crop, were submitted to intermittent drying at three temperatures (60, 85, 110 ºC) at 1:6 rate of intermittence up to final moisture of 11, 13 and 15%, in totally randomized experimental delineation. Drying was performed in a pilot dryer, with cylindrical chamber and centered conic bottom. The drying rate was calculated by the time variation of the mass of grains rate of moisture, and energetic efficiency by the ratio between the amount of energy used to heat the air and the variation of the mass of the grain rate of moisture. Drying air temperature, as well as initial and final moisture, are key factors to measure the energy consumption and the drying rate of white oat grains. The drying rate increases following the increase of temperature of air at the entrance of the intermittent dryer. The air temperature at the dryer entrance, final grain moisture and initial moisture are the variables that affect the time of intermittent drying of white oat.
