Mammaliicoccus (Staphylococcus) sciuri has been rarely associated with infections and sepsis in humans. A 3‐month‐old male western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla), born under human care, died after a traumatic event. Histologic, microbiologic, and molecular findings in postmortem demonstrated a suppurative meningoencephalitis and bacteremia associated with M. sciuri infection.

Streptococcus pasteurianus, also known as S. gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus (SGSP), is a Gram-positive coccoid bacterium that belongs to S. bovis group and was previously identified as S. bovis biotype II/2. 1 This group of bacteria is responsible for human infections, resulting in endocarditis, bacteremia, hepatobiliary disease, colonic lesions, and neonatal meningitis. [1][2][3][4] SGSP is also considered an underreported zoonotic pathogen, being isolated from piglet's brain with meningitis 5 and from goslings and turkeys with neurological signs and sepsis. [6][7][8] There is no previous report of SGSP infection in a non-human primate. Herein, we describe a case of aortic valvular endocarditis with sepsis, caused by SGSP in a puerperal captive emperor tamarin (Saguinus imperator).

Chylothorax is the accumulation of lymph in the thoracic cavity, and it has never been reported in neotropical primates. An emperor tamarin died and at necropsy chylothorax associated with pulmonary compressive atelectasis was diagnosed. Idiopathic chylothorax can be a cause of respiratory insufficiency and death in tamarins.

This is a case of lethal acute diarrhea associated with a mild neutrophilic enteritis in a buffy‐tufted‐ear marmoset (Callithrix aurita) with detection of A/B toxins and isolation of a toxigenic clade 3 Clostridioides difficile strain (A+B+CDT+, ST5), which should be considered as a potential cause of enteritis in this species.

An experiment was carried out to evaluate the dry matter production, total dry matter availability, daily dry matter accumulation rate, light interception, leaf area index, daily accumulation rate and dry matter availability of the morphological components (leaf blades, stems + sheaths and dead material), leaf/stem ratio, crude protein, neutral detergent fibre and acid detergent fibre of Faixa-Branca grass under seven defoliation frequencies (14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 days). Longer defoliation frequencies reduced the percentage of leaf blades and increased the percentage of stems + sheaths. The defoliation frequency positively influenced the availability of leaf blades, stems + sheaths, dead material and total dry matter. In the range of 42 days of defoliation, light interception reached 95%. At frequencies of 14 and 21 days of defoliation, the crude protein content of the leaves was above 20%. The highest utilization efficiency of Faixa-Branca grass is achieved when the forage is managed with cutting intervals of 40 to 46 days. Higher defoliation frequencies positively contribute to the increase in the number of total white band grass leaves and higher crude protein content of the leaf blades and stems + sheaths. ResumoFoi realizado um experimento com o objetivo de avaliar a produção de matéria seca, disponibilidade total de massa seca, taxa de acúmulo diária de matéria seca, interceptação luminosa, índice de área foliar, taxa de acúmulo diário e disponibilidade de matéria seca dos componentes morfológicos (lâmina foliar, colmo+bainha e material morto), relação lâmina/colmo, proteína bruta, fibra em detergente neutro e fibra em detergente ácido do capim Faixa-Branca submetido a sete frequências de desfolhação (14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56 dias disponibilidade de lâmina foliar, colmo+bainha, material morto e matéria seca total. No intervalo de 42 dias de defoliation o capim faixa branca atingiu 95% de interceptação luminosa. Nas frequências de 14 e 21 dias de desfolhação os teores de proteína bruta das folhas foram acima de 20%. Verificou-se que a maior eficiência de utilização do capim Faixa-Branca é alcançada quando a forrageira é manejada com intervalos de corte de 40 a 46 dias. As maiores frequências de desfolhação contribui positivamente para o aumento do número de folhas totais do capim Faixa-Branca e apresentam maiores teores de proteína bruta das lâminas foliares e colmo+bainha. Pyrethroids are ectoparasiticides safe for mammals and widely used in farm animals. An outbreak of systemic intoxication with irritant contact dermatitis resulting from the use of cypermethrin pour on in dairy cows is reported in the state of Pernambuco. Eight adult animals were affected, three died on the property and five were referred to the Clínica de Bovinos, Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Campus Garanhuns. These received 100 mL of pour on Cypermethrin (Ectonil ®, Cipermetrina, Labgard, Brasil). Apathy, hyperexcitability, muscle tremors, sialorrhea, bradycardia and crusted lesions were observed on the dorsum of the neck, scapula, ears and ulcerations in the oral and vaginal mucosa. There was hyperfibrinogenemia and leukocytosis due to neutrophilia with a regenerative left shift. Histopathology showed areas of erosion and ulceration of the epidermis and perivascular lymphohistiocytic and neutrophilic infiltrate in the superficial dermis. Supportive treatment was done with improvement of systemic signs and skin lesions, however, in one animal (with 19 days hospitalized), there was no complete regression of neurological alterations of bradycardia and muscle tremors, even so, it was possible to return to productive activity. High doses of pour on cypermethrin may cause systemic intoxication in cattle and result in bradycardia, hyperexcitability, muscle tremors and sialorrhea with irritant contact dermatitis, and death in severe cases.
