Seit dem erstmaligen Einsatz von Chrom‐Nickel‐Molybdän‐Stählen für Implantate in den 30er Jahren, hat die Entwicklung der chemisch beständigen Stähle große Fortschritte gemacht, die in den Werkstoffnormen für Implantate bis heute kaum einen Niederschlag gefunden haben.
Eine statistische Auswertung von Schadensfällen läßt in Übereinstimmung mit der Lage der charakteristischen Potentiale erkennen, daß Lochfraß, Spaltkorrosion und die dadurch verursachten Korrosionsdauerbrüche durch höhere Chrom‐ und Molybdängehalte leicht vermieden werden können. Stähle, die diesen Anforderungen gerecht werden, sind in allen Normen enthalten und würden allein vom wirtschaftlichen Standpunkt ihren Einsatz rechtfertigen.
