The crystal structure determination of the title compound, [Co(C17HI6N202)(CsH5 N)2 ](C24H20B).C5 H5 N, indicates that the Co ion has an octahedral environment. The Schiff base ligand {systematic name: 2,2'-[ 1,3-propanediylbis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenolato} is found to be disordered at positions C8 and C9 in the propylene chain.
C 34 H 46 CoN 6 O 8 ,triclinic, P1 (no. 2), a =7.130(1) Å, b =10.067(2) Å, c =12.793(3) Å, a =98.25(3)°,Source of material 2-(4-Pyridyl)-4,4,5,5-teramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide was prepared according to the published method [1]. All chemicals used (reagent grade) were commercially available. Amixture of Co(acetylacetonate) 2 ·H2O(0.051 g, 0.2 mmol, 2-(4-pyridyl)-4,4,5,5-teramethylimidazolin-1-oxyl-3-oxide (0.048 g, 0.2 mmol, H 2 O(5ml) and ethanol (15 ml) was continuously stirred for about 30 min at room temperature and then filtered. The filtrate was slowly evaporated at room temperature over several days, to give red crystals suitable for X-ray analysis.
