In this investigation, the effect of nano-TiO 2 particles on wear and corrosion behaviour of AA6063 surface nanocomposites produced via friction stir processing (FSP) was studied. Microstructure analysis of fabricated surface nanocomposites was done with scanning electron microscope and found that TiO 2 nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed in the stir zone. The surface nanocomposites were characterized by hardness, wear and corrosion tests. The results revealed that the microhardness increases due to the presence of hard TiO 2 nanoparticles than as AA6063 alloy. The FSPed surface nanocomposites exhibited low frictional coefficient, excellent wear resistance and adequate corrosion resistance at 40 mm/min and as compared to that of the as cast alloy.Key words: AA6063 alloy, TiO 2 nanoparticles, friction stir processing, surface nanocomposites, microstructure, microhardness, wear behaviour, corrosion behaviour.Досліджено вплив наночастинок TiO 2 на характер зношування та корозії поверхневих нанокомпозитів стопу AA6063, одержаних за допомогою об-роблення тертям з перемішуванням. Проведено аналізу одержаних пове-рхневих нанокомпозитів методою сканувальної електронної мікроскопії та встановлено, що наночастинки TiO 2 рівномірно розподілені в зоні пе-ремішування. Для характеризації поверхневих нанокомпозитів було ви-користано випробування на твердість, зносостійкість і корозійну стій-кість. Показано, що мікротвердість підвищується у порівнянні зі стопом AA6063 завдяки наявності наночастинок TiO 2 . This work summarizes the tribological and corrosion behaviour of Co-Gr nanocomposites. The Co-Gr nanocomposites are synthesized using highenergy ball mill and compacted into cylindrical pellets by hydraulic pressing. The composites are characterized using SEM, EDAX, and AFM. The dry sliding wear results reveal that the wear resistance increases with increase in the percentage of graphite (Gr). The corrosion characteristics of the Co-Gr nanocomposites are examined using immersion and electrochemical methods. The electrochemical polarization results reveal the increase in corrosion resistant of the Co-25Gr nanocomposites (E corr = −0.416 V vs Ag/AgCl) to more positive side than pure Co (−0.443 V). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis results also confirmed Co-25Gr nanocomposite has higher resistance value (100 Ω). The results of the weight loss method also authenticate increase in corrosion resistance of Co-25Gr nanocomposite.

In this work, mechanical wear and corrosion resistance properties of Fe-5Co-5Cr-5W-GNSA hybrid composites fabricated through powder metallurgy process were explored. The composite powders are compressed into an 8 mm diameter green pellets using a hydraulic press at a pressure of 500 MPa. The green compacts are then sintered at 950 °C for 2 h and cooled under furnace atmosphere. The microstructure and Mechanical Properties such as microhardness, compressive strength and density of the hybrid composites were investigated. The microhardness of the Fe-5Co-5Cr-5W-GNSA hybrid composites decreases with increase in GNSA reinforcement. The ground nut shell ash reinforcement also reduces the compressive strength and density of the composite materials. whereas, the wear analysis of the hybrid composites confirmed that the wear rate of the composite materials reduced proportionally with the increase in GHSA content. The electrochemical corrosion analysis also confirms that there is increase in corrosion resistance with increase in GNSA reinforcement.

This Work summarizes the effect of BN and TiC reinforcement on Fe based nanocomposites prepared using powder metallurgy process. The microstructure, mechanical properties and wear resistance of the BN, TiC reinforced Fe based nanocomposites were investigated. The composite materials were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) and XRD. The results revealed that the addition of BN, TiC nanoparticles enhanced the microhardness and compressive strength of the composite materials compared to that of pure Fe, whereas the density of the composite materials has decreased considerably. The wear resistance of the Fe based nanocomposites showed betterment with addition of BN-TiC reinforcements compared to that of bare Fe.
