How long does it take to boil an egg? Theoretical prediction, based on a simple adaptation of the solution to the exact thermal diffusion equation for a sphere, is consistent with experiments. The experimental data are also used to estimate an average value for the thermal diffusivity of an egg.
This is an analysis of the extent to which simple and general mechanisms explain the intermittent behavior observed in particle production. It is shown that a model based on simple particle correlations (with no fractal structure) can generate intermittency exponents similar to those observed experimentally and account for their collision-type dependence in a unified manner.
The thermodynamics of N bosons in a length L in one dimension, with repulsive delta-function interaction, is studied numerically for finite N, L. The results show the nature of finite-size corrections and how the thermodynamic limit is approached, and hopefully will be of some guidance in seeking the solution of a more general model.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
