A novel method for the investigation of electron detachment from negative ions has been developed. It allows the study of the influence of the age of the ions on the detachment process. Measurements were performed on sulphur hexafluoride at 73.3 and 110 mbar. The reduced detachment coefficient delta /n was obtained for a narrow range of E/n values around 3.8*10-15 V cm2. A significant influence of the age of the ions on delta /n was found, which is interpreted as being due to excited states of SF6-.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
