The purpose of this research is to determine soil classification and identify the swelling potential of soil clay in the Jababeka I (sample 1) and the Lippo Cikarang (sample 2), Indonesia. The research was carried out by the experimental method. Soil classification based on the Unified Soil Classification Systems (USCS) determined by No.200 sieve analysis and A-chart (LL vs PI chart), while based on the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Soil Classification System (AASTHO), classification determined by No.200 sieve analysis, liquid limit (LL) and plasticity index (PI). The results show the soils are clay of high plasticity (CH) in determining of the USCS, whereas in AASTHO, the soils are A7-6, which means clay of high plasticity. Furthermore, the swelling potential or expansion potential of clay is determined by indirect methods namely by the results of LL, PI, SL, and percentage of the passing of sieve No.200. Moreover, consolidation test is also carried out to obtain compression coefficient (Cv) and coefficient of consolidation (Cc) to determine the mineral content. The results of this experimental research that soils contain kaolinite minerals, a very high swelling potential with the possible change in volume of 10-30 %.
Vocational literacy is the development of scientific literacy customized to the needs of the SMK level. This can be described as the use of literacy and numeracy to build skills related to their fields. This study aims to explain the concept of Technical Mechanics E-Module based on vocational literacy for SMK level, especially in building engineering. This subject is relevant to improving vocational literacy skills, considering that this subject is a derivative of Physics which is generally used to hone scientific literacy skills at the junior and senior high school levels. The method used is to study literature by identifying and processing the existing research results. The results of this study indicate that the development of the E-Module refers to knowledge, the process towards competence, and work attitudes by paying attention to work preparation, student responses to the latest technology, establishing networks and communication, and collaboration in work. A vocational literacy-based e-module is built based on abilities, problems, and needs that align with the characteristics of SMK Building Students, so it can be used to identify and improve their vocational literacy skills.
The utilization of slag as cement replacement has been widely developed for the concrete mixture. It is shown by the increment of the concrete performance even though unique characteristics during the cement-slag reaction were present. Slag is the waste of the steel industry which has various qualities. Unfortunately, this type of waste is not well identified in past research as supplementary material for the concrete. This paper will study the best proportion of slag cement as supplementary material in concrete for the special use of the rigid pavement. Solely, the mix design criteria for the experiment is not available yet so that preliminary experiment both physical and chemical are investigated for the special purpose of the target of minimum high strength concrete of 35 MPa. The chemical substances of two main oxides of sodium and potassium from ordinary Portland cement is essential to see the alkali activity that leads to the strength quality of the concrete specimen. Otherwise, the consideration of water-cement ratio must be relevant to the quality of concrete matrices.
