Neste artigo, nossos objetivos foram descrever o Programa Foreign Language Teaching Assistant da Comissão Fulbright e discutir como os bolsistas desse programa, os FLTAs, atuam como agentes de uma política linguística de difusão do português em instituições de ensino superior dos Estados Unidos da América (EUA). Para tanto, analisamos, a partir da concepção processual de política linguística de Johnson (2013), que coloca a agência como um dos elementos centrais na compreensão do fenômeno, dados documentais e entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas com alguns dos jovens professores brasileiros que são enviados para aquele país. Os resultados demonstram que o envio de jovens professores brasileiros para ensinar português nos EUA é parte de uma grande política externa que começou a ser implantada no final da Segunda Guerra Mundial, em uma tentativa do governo norte-americano de exercer o que tem sido entendido como soft power. Nas últimas 12 edições do programa, focalizadas neste trabalho, mais de 300 profissionais atuaram, de forma individual e coletiva, tanto dentro quanto fora de salas de aula em quase todos os estados norte-americanos como agentes de difusão do português brasileiro, mesmo, por vezes, encontrando restrições a suas atuações.
O Programa de Estudantes-Convênio de Graduação (PEC-G) é o programa de cooperação internacional na educação superior mais antigo do Brasil e também um dos mais complexos. Diante dessa antiguidade e dessa complexidade, neste trabalho, nosso objetivo é discutir as políticas linguísticas sobre a língua portuguesa inscritas em documentos oficiais do PEC-G. Para tanto, fizemos uma análise de documentos que vêm pautando o programa desde 1965 até 2013, de acordo com uma abordagem metodológica qualitativa e interpretativista. Tivemos como norte teórico a noção de gerenciamento linguístico como uma das dimensões da política linguística preconizada por Spolsky (2004, 2009). Concluímos que, com o passar do tempo, há uma formalização mais intensa das políticas linguísticas destinadas ao PEC-G, porém ainda há aspectos que não encontram respaldo na documentação vigente, como a formação de professores, o currículo e a maior convergência entre os cursos de língua portuguesa ofertados pelo país. Almejamos contribuir com as pesquisas que analisam as relações entre ensino de língua portuguesa e PEC-G como eivadas de dimensões políticas e, assim, subsidiar proposições nesse sentido.
Neste artigo, discutimos as políticas linguísticas educacionais oficiais de Pernambuco voltadas para a Libras, no período de 1999 a 2019, com base em uma amostra de documentos oficiais. Nossa base teórica são as noções de política linguística e domínio escolar (SPOLSKY, 2004, 2009), de mecanismos (SHOHAMY, 2006) e de política linguística como processo (JOHNSON, 2013). O estudo, de natureza documental, segue a metodologia qualitativo-interpretativista. A análise textual se baseia em Koch (2000, 2011). Evidenciamos como os documentos oficiais analisados representam o gerenciamento linguístico exercido por Pernambuco, que aciona diversos mecanismos para fortalecer a Libras no sistema educacional do estado. Tais documentos são formulados em um processo dinâmico e interativo que resulta em textos que refletem diversas vozes sociais. Contudo, a prática ainda está aquém da legislação, cabendo um esforço dos agentes envolvidos com o contexto surdo para que esse amplo acervo documental possa se traduzir na prática.
O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar as crenças sobre o português como língua internacional na perspectiva de participantes de um contexto de oferta de curso intensivo de português para candidatos ao Programa de Estudantes-Convênio de Graduação (PEC-G). Utilizamos as reflexões sobre crenças presentes nos estudos sobre política linguística de Schiffman (1996, 2006), de Spolsky (2004, 2009, 2012) e de Shohamy (2006). A pesquisa insere-se em um paradigma qualitativo-interpretativista (FLICK, 2004; LIN, 2015). A geração de dados foi feita por meio da realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas. A partir de uma análise do conteúdo temático, da seleção lexical e de elementos textuais que indicam a orientação argumentativa dos textos, identificamos que a língua portuguesa apresenta diferentes valorações para os colaboradores. É considerada menos importante quando é destacado o papel fundamental da língua inglesa no mundo e mais importante quando é destacada a relevância do português em contextos específicos.
