ABSTRACTObjective: to verify differences in hand grip strength and in the results of the Special Judo Fitness Test (SJFT) index of Judo athletes between pre-competition and preseason. Method: the sample consisted of ten male Judo athletes between 15 to 20 years of age, with experience in national competitions, with a brown or black belt, who performed hand dynamometry tests and the SJFT. Results: there was an increase in hand grip strength with a statistically significant difference between pre-competition and preseason scores. Regarding the SJFT index, no statistically significant differences were observed. Conclusion: the improvement in hand grip strength can be attributed to the rest period of approximately 4 weeks, which seems to have had a positive influence on a possible overreaching situation. However, the absence of statistical significance between SJFT indexes may imply that the period between pre-competition and preseason was not long enough to cause detraining among the investigated group of athletes. adrytoigo@terra.com.br Palavras-chave:Judô; Estado de treinamento;Força de preensão manual.
