A mancha foliar é uma doença causada pelo fungo Exserohilum turcicum em milho, capim e sorgo. Para demonstrar a ação do patógeno nas plantas, a reação realizada é a de patogenicidade, importante em procedimentos de melhoramento de plantas. A forma de substituir está na ação de toxinas produzidas por isolados do fungo. Para isso, os isolados de milho e capim de E. turcicum foram desenvolvidos em meio de Fries, sendo depois extraídas as toxinas. As folhas de milho foram coletadas após dez dias da germinação e colocadas em placas de Petri recebendo gotas de toxinas de milho, capim, suspensão de conídios ou água, sendo depois submetidas a diferentes análises. Os resultados preliminares e mostraram que, em plantas de milho tratadas com toxina do isolado de milho, foi constatada necrose enquanto as plantas, recebendo somente suspensão de conídio, apresentaram as lesões. As fitotoxinas foram capazes de reproduzir os sintomas da mancha foliar causada pelo patógeno, podendo este ser utilizado em processos de melhoramento de plantas.
