O desmatamento é um processo que devasta a cobertura vegetal da superfície terrestre e desencadeia impactos como a degradação do solo, destruição do habitat faunístico e assoreamento dos cursos hídrico causados por processos erosivos. Essa situação se agravada quando ocorre em unidade de proteção integral cuja finalidade é proteger remanescente de Mata Atlântica e seus recursos naturais, conforme determinado na legislação brasileira. Assim, a presente pesquisa teve por objetivo analisar os fatores antrópicos que ocasionam o processo de desmatamento na Reserva Biológica de Pedra Talhada-AL/PE evidenciando as implicações socioambientais desencadeadas no meio ambiente local. Os procedimentos metodológicos adotados compreenderam contextualização teórica da temática, trabalho de campo, conversas informais com funcionário e morador da reserva e mapeamento espaço-temporal da cobertura da Terra. Constatou-se que o processo de desmatamento ocorrido na Reserva Biológica era motivado por interesses econômicos tendo em vista a comercialização da madeira, abertura de áreas para produção agrícola de subsistência familiar e usos domésticos. Também foi verificado redução do desflorestamento, principalmente, a partir de 2011, perante ações de fiscalização mais eficiente e a saída da população mediante pagamento de indenizações, proporcionando recuperação de 6,35% das áreas de vegetação natural.
Resumo: No Brasil, o acelerado processo de industrialização desencadeou uma série de investimentos em infraestrutura e os grandes empreendimentos hidrelétricos (GEH) foram considerados indispensáveis e tecnicamente os mais adequados para atender as demandas por energia elétrica. No Semiárido, os vales úmidos do submédio São Francisco vivenciaram, de forma pioneira, a inserção de GEH e a difusão da agricultura científica que desencadearam transformações na organização socioespacial dos municípios. Insere-se, assim, o município de Petrolândia - PE, localizado no submédio São Francisco, que em 1988 teve uma parte do seu território alagado pelas águas do reservatório de Itaparica. Analisou-se as transformações socioterritoriais desencadeadas pelos grandes empreendimentos hidrelétricos sobre as relações campo-cidade e rural-urbano na escala municipal da Região Semiárida, através do estudo de urbanidades e de ruralidades. Partiu-se de uma abordagem crítica, embasada no materialismo histórico dialético, através de uma pesquisa explicativa de natureza qualiquanti. Os métodos procedimentais histórico, comparativo, estatístico, espacial e o estudo de caso, associados à pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, à aplicação de formulários, à realização de entrevistas informais e de registros fotográficos possibilitaram apreender o tema em estudo. Constatou-se que a construção da Usina Itaparica desencadeou as maiores transformações socioespaciais nos municípios sob sua área de influência, em especial no município de Petrolândia. As relações campo-cidade se intensificaram, em razão do aumento dos fluxos de pessoas, mercadorias e capital entre esses espaços, que, apesar de distintos e até antagônicos, estabelecem complexas relações que se dão de maneira interdependente e complementar, cujos conteúdos sociais, rural e urbano, extrapolam possíveis limites territoriais de abrangência, fazendo emergir ruralidades e urbanidades tanto no campo quanto na cidade. El ser humano, en su necesidad de hábitat, ha ocupado el espacio históricamente de diversas maneras. Sin embargo, en las últimas dos décadas, el crecimiento de la población, el deterioro de los ecosistemas, el aumento de la pobreza y el predominio del valor de intercambio sobre el valor de uso han llevado a nuevas formas de habitar no solo en las ciudades, sino en sus áreas rurales cercanas, y se ha tornado en una prioridad para los gobiernos locales e instituciones internacionales. Frente a esto las unidades residenciales, particularmente las cerradas, se han constituido en una alternativa para “aliviar” esta situación. Sin embargo, estas han traído nuevos desafíos y temas de debate en cuanto a la participación y el control social (entre otras manifestaciones, los modos de convivencia), económico (valor de uso/valor de intercambio) y ambiental (ocupación de áreas rurales: expansión del suelo urbano).
