The present paper shares an account of the experience of the English Immersion U.S.A Program (EIP), promoted by the U.S. Mission to Brazil as a positive response to the need to outreach to minority and disadvantaged public school students in Brazil after the selection of the Youth Ambassadors program. The account conveys the experience of the selection process, the program itself, and highlights the possibility of the program to (1) foster international cooperation to reach the goals of the U.S. Mission to Brazil through both education and social inclusion; (2) allowed the participants to have an immersive experience in the U.S. culture and allowed them to practice and sharpen their English language skills; (3) allowed the participants to get to know Brazil itself better as they interacted with fellow Brazilians from different parts of the country; (4) make an educational environment to allow transformative learning, and (5) achieve Sustainable development goal number 17.
Este artigo analisa a Declaração de Punta del Este, adotada no 70º aniversário da Declaração Universal dos Direitos Humanos (DUDH), que celebra e reafirma o compromisso com a proteção da dignidade humana como núcleo dos direitos humanos. Os principais temas da Declaração são discutidos, incluindo a educação em direitos humanos, a busca por consenso, a delimitação e especificação dos direitos humanos, e as obrigações e responsabilidades. O artigo destaca a importância da cooperação entre diversos atores e a promoção do diálogo e compreensão mútua para enfrentar os desafios no campo dos direitos humanos e garantir a igualdade e dignidade para todos. ABSTRACT This article examines the Punta del Este Declaration, adopted on the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which celebrates and reaffirms the commitment to protect human dignity as the core of human rights. The main themes of the Declaration are discussed, including human rights education, the search for consensus, the delimitation and specification of human rights, and obligations and responsibilities. The article highlights the importance of cooperation among diverse actors and the promotion of dialogue and mutual understanding to address the challenges in the field of human rights and ensure equality and dignity for all. The interview is with Zöe Decker, Masters in Geology, a professional working with the Global Goals after a diverse study experience in Canada, Iceland and South Africa. Zöe now shared the mission of teaching digital literacy to all kids with the organization which she works for Kids Code Jeunesse. In the interview, she gives her personal viewpoints on coding, SDGs and education explaining how Canada is preparing the next generation for global citizenship.
