La Annona deceptrix (Westra) H. Rainer (Annonaceae) es un árbol endémico de Ecuador y reportado como especie amenazada, según la Lista Roja de la UICN, su vulnerabilidad es por actividades antropogénicas (extracción y deforestación). Se distribuye en microclimas húmedos del bosque seco tropical de la costa ecuatoriana, entre 0 a 600 m s.n.m. El objetivo de la investigación documentar los aspectos etnobotánicos de la especie en estudio, se determinaron las características morfológicas y usos de la especie amenazada A deceptrix en 10 comunidades, cuatro en la zona Nor-Oeste de Pedernales en el cerro Pata de Pájaro y seis en la zona Sur de Manabí Puerto López (Parque Nacional Machalilla). Para el desarrollo de esta investigación se realizó la siguiente metodología, operó la técnica acción investigativa y la acción participativa. Metodología cuya base es la participación de las personas con aportes empíricos que ayudan a la investigación, se triangulo con métodos cualitativos y cuantitativos, herramientas de información secundaria, observación y entrevistas semiestructuradas. En la comunidad de Puerto López el 42.00 % de los habitantes conocen la especie. En Pedernales las comunidades aledañas, de las 39 entrevistas (jefes y lideres de las comunidades, guías locales hombres y mujeres que recorren el bosque), el 87.00 % no conocen la especie, 13.00 % de habitantes de las comunidades de Atahualpa y Tachina conocen la especie. En El Carmen conocen los aportes medicinales de A. deceptrix en un 16.00 %, en Río Blanco con 4.17 %. La preparación de platos locales con la especie A deceptrix en El Carmen hubo 16.00 % y en Rio Blanco 4.17 % mientras que en las demás comunidades de Machalilla-Puerto López hubo desconocimiento. En Río Blanco, la época de floración es en enero y febrero, la fructificación entre marzo y junio. Se tiene que los ancianos usaban la A deceptrix para combatir las picaduras de serpientes, actualmente las mujeres preparan ensaladas a los extranjeros que visitan la región.
