ELT of the incompetent GSV with a 980-nm diode laser appears to be an extremely safe technique, particularly when the energy applied is calculated as a function of the GSV diameter. It is associated with only minor effects. Currently, ELT has become the method of choice for treating superficial veins and has almost replaced the treatment of traditional ligation and stripping.
EVLA of the incompetent SSV with a 980-nm diode laser appears to be an extremely safe technique. After successful treatment, there is a very low rate of re-canalisation of the SSV. Obliteration of the SSV was confirmed at 1-, 2- and 3-year follow-up; this study suggests that this procedure will provide a lasting result.
Two hypotheses can be proposed: (i) fat elimination is so gradual that an increase in circulating lipid levels is not measurable; (ii) the damaged adipocytes are undergoing apoptosis and being removed by phagocytosis, presumably via activated macrophages.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
