Des figures récurrentes s’imposent alors d’un média à l’autre. L’analyse d’un cas particulier de mystification médiatique, celle d’Anouk V., qui prétendait avoir vaincu le cancer, montre que si un tel faux récit de vie a pu se propager, c’est qu’il ne correspondait que trop bien aux attentes des médias. Grâce à sa forme de type success story , ce faux récit permettait de traiter d’un sujet délicat (celui de la maladie grave) sans heurter la sensibilité du public. Ce dérapage révèle aussi que le genre portrait s’affranchit souvent des règles ou routines journalistiques qui s’appliquent aux autres genres médiatiques.
